Chapter 1: Finally Together

A/N: Hey guys, PJandKKfan here. I've wanted to do a Neville and Luna story for a while now, but I wasn't sure how to do it, or how to start it. I finally got an idea while watching a scene from The Deathly Hallows Part 2. The beginning is pretty much based off that scene. . . but of course the rest is based off the ending of the book and what happens afterwards. Enjoy. :D

Dedication goes to Percy_Is_Awesome because yesterday wouldn't have been near as awesome as it was without her. XD

Neville's PoV

"You haven't seen Luna, have you?" I asked Harry and Ginny, after catching my breath from racing up the stairs.

People were rushing around the Hogwarts castle, preparing for the battle against Voldemort and his followers that could start any second now.

"Luna?" Harry inquired.

"I'm mad for her. I think it's about time I told her, since we'll probably both be dead by dawn!" I answered him before running back into the mass of people going down the stairs.

Luna Lovegood. My best friend for two years. The girl I had secretly loved for the past two years. I had to find her before the battle started. I had to tell her how I felt about her . . . in case one of us died in the next few hours.

Luna's PoV

"Luna!"

I turned in the direction I had heard my name called. I had been doing my best to prepare myself and others for the battle.

"Neville?"

He ran to where I was, stopping a few feet in front of where I was standing in the Great Hall. "Luna . . . I have to tell you something."

"You can tell me anything, Neville."

He took a few steps forward, and I was quite conscious that it left very little space in between us. He took one more step, so now there was literally only a few millimeters gap. Before I could do or say anything, he leaned in and closed that gap, pressing his lips to mine for what was probably only a few seconds, but what felt like infinity.

He pulled away. "I had to do that just once because I'm in love with you, Luna Lovegood, and I had tell you that in case we die tonight."

"Neville I-"

"If you feel the same way about me, tell me if we both survive. Okay?"

I sighed. "Okay, Neville. Just do me a favor?"

"Yeah?"

"Survive."

I was sitting on the steps leading up to where the Professors' table usually was. Right in front of where the House tables usually were.

Now they were replaced with cots where the dead lay while their family and friends cried over their bodies, or where the many injured were being treated, because the infirmary was crowded with those who were near Death's doorstep. I had a few scratches on my face from spells, but I wasn't injured any more besides that, at least that I was aware of.

My dad, Xenophilius Lovegood, however, was another matter.

He had been Crucioed several times, I had been told, and he was currently under serious care in the infirmary. Apparently I wasn't supposed to hear this: but they didn't thing he was going to last very long. That he only probably had a little time left.

I was trying to stay strong and think good thoughts, but it was hard, especially since my mum was already dead and I didn't have any close family to be here. And my friends were either being treated or crying over a lost friend or family member. A few being the ones cried over.

"Hey." Neville sat down on the step beside me.

"Hey," was all I could say.

"I heard about your dad . . . I'm sorry, Luna."

"It's okay, Neville. It's not like it was your fault."

Minutes of silence passed in between us. He finally broke it. "We both survived."

I laughed lightly. "Yes, just barely."

"And...?"

"I love you too, Neville Longbottom."

A/N: I know, it's quite short, but I wanted to end it right there. I promise that the next chapter will be much longer (though there will probably be a lot of sadness and depression). So what did you guys think of Chapter 1? I think I did ok. :) And I know Luna doesn't seem like she usually is...but I feel like between the time she was locked up in Malfoy Manor and the Battle of Hogwarts, she changed.

I have a question. What is Neville and Luna's ship name? Nuna? Leville? Is there in an official one?
