Luna's PoV
Neville's grandmother's name was Augusta Longbottom. When we walked into the house she greeted us and gave both of us a hug, and said she was very sorry about my father's death, but happy that I'd be living here.
After we put our bags and pets (Neville's toad named Trevor and my pink pygmypuff named Bubblegum) in our rooms upstairs, she made sure we ate a big meal that made us stuffed afterwards but was very good.
***
A few hours later, Augusta had gone out somewhere and Neville and I were getting ready to go to bed. Before I closed the door to the room his grandmother had set up for me, Neville kissed me on the cheek and wished me good night.
"Night," I replied, closing the bedroom door. I plopped down on the soft bed and climbed under the blue covers, Bubblegum snuggling into my chest. I fell asleep to be brought into a nightmare.
Though I hadn't seen my father die, the nightmare gave me a very vivid and graphic picture of his death scene.
I could see many people and creatures, on both sides, fighting each other usually to the death. But that's not what I focused on.
My father was battling a huge man with a huge crescent moon shaped scar on his right cheek that had been recently put there or opened again, because it was bleeding crimson. My father attempted to cast a full Body-Bind spell on him but the Death Eater blocked it. The Death Eater, as I watched frozen and helpless, then proceeded to disarm my father.
And then he spoke the dreaded two words.
"Avada Kedavra!"
My father fell to the hard ground, his face instantly going pale and the lights leaving his light blue eyes.
"NO!" I screamed, in the real world, not in the terrible nightmare.
I bolted upright in my bed, just as the door burst open and Neville stood in the doorway, out of breath from his dash across the hallway and his hair rumpled.
"Luna, what is it?"
"I had a...nightmare..my dad..dying..."
Neville seemed to understand my jumble of words because he closed the door and walked over to my bed. He sat down and put his arms around me.
And that was it. I was done. I couldn't hold it back anymore. I let it go and sobbed into his chest.
***
I don't know how long I cried and cried and Neville patted and rubbed my back, but after a long time I lost the energy to cry any more.
Neville noticed my tears had stopped falling. He pulled just a little bit away from me, looked me in the eyes through the darkness, and asked, "Would you like me to stay here tonight, in case you have any more nightmares?"
"Y-Yes please, Neville. I'd appreciate that very much," I replied.
"Okay, then I will."
We climbed under the covers together. We scooted close to each other. He put his arm around my waist, and I laid my head down on his shoulder.
And that's how we slept that night, and the rest of the summer. I rarely had any more nightmares, and when I did, Neville would heard my screaming and shake me awake.
***
Summer went by so quickly, and before we knew it, it was the day before the Hogwarts term started. Neville and I were going to head out to Diagon Alley to get my things for my seventh (and last) year at Hogwarts, though we both knew what it meant.
It was our last day together until the Christmas break.
We were just walking out the door when a young barn owl crashed right at the doorstep. It had a rolled up piece of white parchment in it's beak. I stooped down and gently took it out of it's mouth. The owl quickly flew away.
I opened the parchment up and the two of us read it together.
Dear Miss Luna Lovegood,
Due to the damage Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry took in the Battle of Hogwarts, we are still repairing many things inside the school, as many people like you are still repairing the damage inside their hearts. Therefore, you will not have to complete your last year at Hogwarts, I know you already possess enough knowledge on your own.
I hope you and Mister Longbottom are getting along very well.
Sincerely,
Professor Minerva McGonagall
Headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Neville laughed and put his arm around my shoulders. "Looks like you're not leaving me."
I smiled, reached up, and kissed him lightly on the lips. I whispered into his ear, "I won't be leaving you any time soon, not as long as I have anything to say or do about it. You can be sure about that."
