The day you bought me was the happiest day of my life. I had grown tired of sitting on the shelf, looking out the window, watching people pass by as they tugged along their children who were looking from outside the toy shop window with their eyes filled with wonder. I had witnessed multiple times, how little girls hugged and kissed their dolls and how little boys play with their race cars and jets. I had longed for an owner... but I had none... until you came along! It was the day that made me the happiest toy in the world.
That calm Sunday afternoon, when you welcomed me into your home, had been the first time that I had actually felt like I was home. The cool breeze of the afternoon air that peacefully passed through the window of your room making the curtains writhe like white smoke, the bright colored walls that surrounded us as we played in your room as time worked in perfect harmony with the setting sun and letting its light shine upon those glorious hues and prints on the walls that gave out a radiant shine to your eyes, and who could ever forget your soft little bed where you would let me lay in whenever there were times when you felt like I needed rest. They all made me feel like I was indeed in a place that I could call my own. The toy shop was never a home to me, it was a prison, the gloominess of waiting each and every day on a shelf, doomed to just watch in patience as I witnessed the happiness of others instead of experiencing it myself. It all felt superfluous, I felt like I was wasting along the time I had, it felt like I was just there to merely exist and do nothing else but covet at the marvellous smiles of young children as they looked at the faces of their beloved toys. I felt hopeless, but you freed me! You actually freed me from the impending future I had of just wasting along those dusty and uncomfortable wooden shelves. You’re my saviour, and from that moment on, when the owner of the store gave me to you, I swore that I will never leave your side. We played together since then, it seemed that you couldn’t go anywhere without me. I loved every moment that we spent together, I always did.
At night, when you were too scared to sleep because you were afraid that the monsters hiding under your bed would get you, I was there for you. I always wanted to tell you that you shouldn’t be afraid... I will protect you... I’ll make sure that you won’t ever get hurt. I’ll make sure that those evil shadows won’t corrupt your dreams and turn them into nightmares. I’ll make sure that the boogeyman won’t ever get to you and harm you in your sleep. I will never allow you to miss even just a second of sleep, this became my duty since then, but I didn’t mind, I always placed in my mind that you needed some sleep. Teddy bears don’t need sleep, they could be up all night without even just a wink, and I think you’d know that by now. I was always on the lookout for anything that would cause you some harm in your sleep. I was always there looking out for you, because I loved you and I still wanted to play with you when you woke up.
By the time you were finally asleep, and the hissing and growling monsters came out from under your bed, I protected you. Without fear I charged at them, despite them biting and clawing at me, I never really minded. I prevented them from even laying a finger on you. I love you, you are my saviour and now it’s time to be your protector. I had been protecting you ever since...
Each and every night I defeated the monsters under your bed, getting ripped and torn from all the battles won. I didn’t mind, because every time the sun came out, and you discovered that I had lost one of my button eyes. You would find another button and fix me up again. You’re the best! Even if the replacement didn’t really match with my other eye, it’s alright... as long as I can perfectly see the smile on your face as we play together... All was fine with me.
