people's names tell their fate. People with nice happy names live nice happy lives. People with not so happy names... well... you get the deal. People with stereotypical names are stereotypical people. People with unique names become "special snowflakes". Somehow, two girls, Deirdre (sorrowful/sad one) and Beatrice (she who brings happiness) manage to grow up to be the exact opposite of what their names foretold. They get to the bottom of the whole "names tell the future business" much to the dismay of the government and everyone involved.
