“DRINGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!”
I snapped my head up at the loudness of the bell, shaking my sleepiness away I grab my books and sprint out the door. Racing to my locker and dumping my books inside, I grab my duffle bag and head to the gym. I stroll into the girls locker room and get changed before walking out onto the oval and over to my boys.
“So we were thinking we could go on a massive surf trip this summer holidays…” Suggested Blake
Raising my eye brows I joke “That sounds like a really awesome idea Blake, how long did it take you to come up with that??”
Smirking he turns my way “If it was so easy to think of why haven’t you thought of it yet? Hmm?”
Pretending to think I pipe up “thought it was about time that you got the credit for something around here, don’t ya think?”
Blake was cut off by the loud whistle, making everyone on the field go silent. Mr Scott our P.E teacher stalked into the centre of the field with Lani and Mr Unknown trailing behind him.
“Right class, we have two new kids joining our class for the rest of the year. Please introduce yourselves” he bellowed
Glaring daggers at a very uncomfortable looking Lani, she pipes up “Hey, I’m Lani Morgan.”
Mr Unknown takes that as his queue to introduce himself, “I’m Colton Ryder. But everyone calls me Colt.”
I finally take the time to actually look at him, tall broad and muscular, dirty blonde hair, probably due to the sun and striking green eyes. Not bad, the usual surfer look.
“Ok everyone, warm up. 3 laps top speed then stretch it out.” He yelled
Everyone lined up at the start of the track, me in the middle of my boys, the girly girls on the end of the left side and the footy players on the right.
The whistle blew and I was off, running almost full sprint keeping up with my boys. They all knew I was fast, just because of the gruelling training dad made me do to keep fit for surfing.
Pulling ahead of the boys I get into my zone, clearing my head of all unnecessary thoughts and focusing on one thing. Lani.
She looks to be here for good, so I need to either confront her and vent about everything happened because of her, and then get closure. Or I can avoid her my whole life, option 2 sounds better to me, but if the boys find out they’ll make me play nice.
Fine, ill confront her tomorrow. No backing out.
Second problem. Colt.
I see you asking, ‘what about him?’ and ‘why would you be interested in him?’ well truth be told, I don’t really know. I like meeting new people and he’s new, so I might go talk to him later. He is kinda cute though…. What is wrong with me!? He showed up here with Lani, and I haven’t seen him leave her side! There probably dating, just no Summer!
With a new found anger towards Lani, I increase my speed. Pulling even further ahead of the pack.
Getting back to my thoughts, I remember how there’s a scout coming to watch the RipCurl event next month, I really need to up my game. You have 1 month Summer, you need to get focused and throw everything into this.
The loud blow of the whistle made me jump to a stop and almost fall onto my face. Whirling around to face Mr Scott, I realise everyone else is staring at me while they do they’re stretches. Confused I jog over to Mr Scott,
“Summer, you do realise I only asked you to do 3 laps right?” he asks raising a brow
“ummm.. Yeah how many did I do then?”
“You did 4 and a half Summer, I don’t want another call from your dad telling me I’m over exerting his star surfer” he explains
“Oh, ok I’m gonna go stretch now” finding a legitimate reason to get out of there
I make my way over to my boys and start stretching with them
“So what was that all about Sum?” Tristan questions
I scrunch up my nose and reply “did another lap and a half again, dad has seriously scared Mr Scott about over exerting me”
“Ah” he said giving a knowing look
“So whatcha going to do about Lani?” Jayden adds
“I’ve decided to talk to her tomorrow and get closure, so I can get over this thing!” I exclaim
“Alrighty then everyone, were gonna play rugby for today. Boys! No hard tackles for any of the girls, except Summer, she’s tough enough to take them. No calls, from dad right Summer?” coach bellows
“Yeah yeah, I won’t tell him” I chuckle
Everyone splits into 2 teams and takes a side of the field. Jayden, Blake and Tristan are on my team.
Halfway through the game I catch Colt staring at me from the other side of the field, once he sees he’s been caught he looks away. While I was distracted Lani, bolted through our defence aiming straight for me, chuckling as she was ready to tackle me I quickly side stepped out of her path and watched her fall flat on her face. Biting my lip to keep me from laughing I jog over to the ball she dropped, grabbed it and looked around for anyone open. Sensing someone running up to me from behind, I step out of their path only to be tackled, by a very heavy body. Both of us landing on the ground with an oof. Groaning I try to push the heavy body off me, with no avail.
”Get off me before you become my next punching bag!” I growl
He lifts himself off me, I glance up to be met with a pair of electric green eyes. Colton.
“Oh, hey sorry about that. Are you ok?” he asks worriedly, his voice deep and smooth.
“Yeah I’m fine, nice tackle you have there, where did you learn that?” I question
“Just a few years of rugby, surfing and boxing makes an awesome athlete” he brags
“Really? Well what about a girl who surfs, SUP’s, kayaks, scuba dives, sails, kick boxes, runs, and basketballs and plays badminton? Not awesome enough for ya?” I fire back
Looking up, his mouth is hanging open, showing his dimples. Dimples! You’ve gotta be kidding me Summer, you’re getting excited about dimples?
“Wow, you are the whole package aren’t you?” he mumbles under his breath, probably not meaning for me to hear
“ok we better get back to the game” he offers
“Yeah, see ya round Colt” I reply
