"This is really good, Jasmine. You make the best pancakes." Mom said before taking another bite of my famous pancakes. Leo and Dad nod in agreement.
"It's not me, it's the instructions on the box," I shrug as I pour more maple syrup on my plate. "So, can I go to Julia's Quinceañera tonight? The eating and dancing starts at 8." I ask.
Mom and Dad exchange looks instead of conversing about their decision. They always do this. I like to believe it's a secret gift of telekinesis.
After a long pause of silence, my dad is the first one to speak. "What time are you planning on having us pick you up?" He asks.
"Ummm," I pause for a second. They won't say yes to 11:30 and they'll probably say no to 11. "Maybe 10:30?" I answer hesitantly.
"Okay. Well, make sure you're aware of your surroundings." Mom begins. Here we go with the safety procedures that I've heard a million times. "If you leave your cup somewhere, don't go back to it, just get a new one because some people like to slip drugs into drinks. And make sure your phone is charged before you go just in case of emergency." She finishes.
"Don't get raped." Leo adds bluntly causing me to roll my eyes.
"You still have that pepper spray, right mija?" Dad asks.
"Guys, seriously? This isn't my first rodeo." I slightly snap, growing frustrated. I understand that they want me to be safe, but being ambushed with procedures is a bit much.
"We just want you to be okay." Mom says softly. My attitude quickly drops and I send her a small smile.
"Well, thank you, but I'm always safe at events like this. No need to worry." I respond while getting up. "Are you guys finished eating?" I ask. Their heads nod, giving a silent yes. I collect their plates and take them to the now filled sink.
Great. I just love cleaning after cooking.
Deciding to do it later, I go to my room and close the door behind me.
Netflix time, baby.
After I turn off all the lights, I open my phone to go to the Netflix app. I don't have a T.V. in my room due to the lack of space in my room, so I watch Netflix on my phone.
Before I click on the Netflix app, I see that I have a message.
It must be the one that I didn't check last night.
I open my messages and my heart picks up its pace once I see who the sender is.
Javier: Hey. What's up? :P
You see, Javier is just wow to me. A lot of people overlook him, but I just think he's great. And he's pretty cute if I do say so myself. Tanned skin, dimples in his smile, perfectly styled hair. His DNA is just beautiful. I have to play it cool though. I mean yes, he has made it known that he likes me, but I don't want to be all like "hey you're hot, I like you" you know?
Me: Hey, sorry. I just now saw your message. I really don't text much on game days. Hope you didn't miss me too much :P
Simple enough. We joke around a lot, which is kind of a relief to me because I'm a pretty playful person if I do say so myself.
Oh snap.
I never texted John back.
I quickly send John an apology text similar to the one I sent to Javier, and read it over in approval.
Wait, what did I even get on my phone for?
Oh yeah. Netflix.
I open up Netflix and click on Gilmore Girls, but I don't process anything on the screen. My mind is too focused on something else. Well, more like someone else.
