The first half of my day consisted of English, Economy and Government, Math, then my favorite class: choir. I walked into the large music room, which I’ve had a choir in for the last three years, and sat down on the risers. Looking around I saw my two best friends, Louis and Liam, talking with a group of other kids. As I expected there was no one new. It’s hard to get into acapella when you first join choir so, we rarely have any completely new faces.  Of course there were the kids who were new to acapella, because they moved up; however, no one completely new to the choir program.

Becoming bored I decided to call over my buffoons of best friends who had yet to notice my presence.

“Hey! Liam! Louis!” I yelled across the room. They turned and smiled at me before heading over.

“You couldn’t have just walked over to us?” Louis asked with a smirk. I shook my head and they chuckled before sitting down next to me. We weren’t able to talk much because Mr. Spencer walked into the room and pulled the piano into the center, then played a chord that told us to stand up and prepare for a warm up.

“Hey guys, I wanna get started immediately this year, so we’re gunna do color testing today. Why don’t you all go into the section you think you sing in.” Mr. Spencer instructed us. I went over to the baritones and Louis and Liam went to the tenor section.  Everyone pretty much knew where they needed to go by now so this part was pretty easy. Mr. Spencer called the sopranos up to color test just as the curly haired boy walked into the room. Mr. Spencer turned his attention to him and a look of confusion then realization crossed his face.

“Ah Mr. Hills, You’ll be singing baritone I believe.” Mr. Spencer smiled and directed Mr. Hills over to my section then returned to the sops. It’s genuinely odd that Spence would just send him over to here without testing him. He’s new… but maybe he knows his voice somehow. EH. I shrugged it off and turned to introduce myself to the boy now sitting next to me.

“Hey, sorry about earlier... I’m Niall” I stuck my hand out to him and he warily took it.

“Harry” he stated dully “and its fine”

Wow, this kid seems like an ass. I turned away from him and watched Spence go down the line of sops testing them until they blended correctly next to each other.  He went through all the sections and eventually got the baritones. The nine of us stood up and walked to the front of the class. Standing in a line he went to each of us, having us sing a scale then moving us accordingly. When he got to me, I sang and he moved me down to the middle of the line. Harry was next. He sang and holy God was he amazing sounding. But it sounded surprisingly familiar. I ignored the thought remembering what an ass he is.  Mr. Spencer moved him down the line and right next to me. He told us to sing together and we did. He kept Harry there. Shit.

When all the baritone testing was over, Harry was still right next to me. Great now I have to be next to him all semester.  He seemed to be having the same thoughts as he was obviously brooding as we walked back over to the risers.

I don’t think Acapella is going to be my favorite this year.

Class ended and Liam and I started to the bench that we had inhabited at lunch for the last three years... Well that is when I wasn’t in my dark time. Louis said he’d catch up to us and had stayed in the choir room for some reason.  Liam and I started chatting about our summers when Louis came walking up the hill laughing, with Harry in tow. I rolled my eyes. He would be friends with him.

Now don’t get me wrong I love Lou but he can be an ass sometimes so the two should get along fine.  Scooting to the farthest side of the bench, Li and I made room for the two.

“Hey guys, mind if Harry joins us?” Louis inquired happily. Liam nodded his head but I disregarded the question. “Niall?” Louis asked again with a slight worry in his voice.

“Whatever, sure” I stated bluntly with a wave of my hand. I didn’t really want to have more time with this kid today so I made up an excuse to get away. “I’m going to go get a lunch.” I remarked before grabbing some money and walking away.  Once I turned the corner towards the cafeteria I turned down another hallway and started wandering around the school observing my surroundings. The mirage of students changed every year but not really. The groups were just as stereotypical and everyone was still into themselves and only themselves.

I rolled my eyes  and audibly scoffed at a couple making out in the hallway and continued down the halls. Eventually I got outside the three hundreds wing and walked behind the building. There was a lawn and a tree that offered a good amount of shade. This was where I went last year whenever I wanted to avoid my boyfriend, which was a lot. I lay down under the tree and looked up to the sky through the branches. It was quite relaxing and I zoned out. I just want this year to be easy.  I sighed and the lunch bell rang, but I have a free fifth so I might as well stay here, and go get my stuff later. I zoned out again, that is until a raspy voice cleared itself above me.

I cracked my eyes then immediately closed them and inwardly groaned as I saw the curly haired asshole standing above me.  Suddenly I heard something thump down next to me.

“I brought you your stuff.” He muttered “Free fifth?” he asked equally as quiet. I nodded my head. “Me too.”  After a few moments of silence I opened my eyes to see him still standing there awkwardly.  I sighed I can’t catch a freakin’ break.  Well he was nice enough to find me and bring me my stuff so he can’t be that bad.

“Well, are you gunna sit down or what” I asked with a small smile. He visibly relaxed and plopped down beside me.  “I kinda thought you hated me” he murmured.  I shrugged. No point in lying. “You kinda seem like a stuck up asshole.” I told him. He looked at me with wide eyes. “Seriously? That’s what my management said too,” he murmured almost inaudibly.  I decided he probably didn’t want me to hear it so I just ignored it and nodded my head again. “You give off a very arrogant vibe dude” I stated. I have never been one to avoid a point.  But I might’ve been a bit too harsh because he was looking at me like a wounded and angry puppy.  But the look passed quickly and a smile broke onto his face showing massive and adorable dimples.

“Sorry about that, I didn’t mean to come off like a dick.” He smirked and looked at me. Now that I saw him extremely up close I could appreciate how attractive he is. But also I could see how odd his eyes were. They looked like contacts. I figured he wouldn’t mind me asking so I did.

“Hey are you wearing contacts?” I questioned. His face went from pleasant to harsh in a split second.

“No and why were you checking me out again, what are you gay?” He practically yelled at me.  His outburst shocked and offended me. So I just nodded my head.  Realization and guilt flashed across his face but I didn’t care. He should feel bad, that isn’t something that should be thrown in someone’s face, gay or not.  I stood up, grabbed my stuff, and turned away. “Nice talking to you.” I stated bluntly before walking back towards the 300s wing.

That boy confuses me, and I have a bad feeling he going to make this year a lot more complicated than I want.
