17 years old and Kim Yugyeom could already make a novel out of his criminal record. Vandalizing, shoplifting, DUI, and drugs he had done it all. He had never done serious time but he had been to juvie more than a few times. Yugyeom never thought twice about the things that he did because he knew he would never be punsished for them. His parents were always there to bail him out and trust me when I say that if he were in prison, his family would have some good lawyers.
Yugyeom opened his eyes and groaned. His head felt like it was going to explode. He sat up in bed, feeling nauseuos and dizzy from all the booze and weed the night before. He squeezed his eyes shut and pressed his thumbs against his forehead in attempt to dull the pain but it only seemed to make the room spin faster. He waited a few minutes for his body to calm itself before flinging his legs over the bed, standing on shaky legs and making his way to his bathroom. He caught a glimpse of his reflection in the mirror and almost scared himself. His shaggy brown hair tangled in a mess and still wearing clothes from the day before, and he realized that he didn't remember coming home from his friend, Jaebums house. The last thing he remembered was sitting in Jaebums room drinking, smoking and getting wrapped up in a drunken make out fest, the usual... and then he remembers saying that he needed to get home and then waking up in his bed.
He started the shower and pushed all thoughts aside as he stripped down and stepped in. His body tensed up as the water scorched his sensitive skin. He then tilted his head back into the water and the bathroom immediately filled with the smell of pot that had clung onto his hair and skin. He stood there for what seemed like forever before he heard someone pounding on the door, which was unusual because nobody ever bothered him when he was in his own bathroom.
The door cracked open slightly
"Gyeom?"
"Yeah?"
"Mom and dad need to talk to you. Its not good Yugyeom." His tone was sad and that scared Yugyeom. He poked his head out of the shower to look at his brother who looked like someone had ran over his puppy.
"Whats wrong, Sam?" He asked, a heavy feeling building in the pit of his stomach. The younger boy just looked at the floor and shook his head sadly before he walked out.
Yugyeom got out of the shower, dried off and threw on a pair of black jeans and a t shirt in record time. Before leaving his room, he stood with his hand on the knob for a good two minutes, scared of finding out what had upset Sam so much that he wouldnt talk. Finally he twisted the handle and stepped out into the hallway. Slowly he made his way downstairs and into the family room where, as he guessed, both of his parents were sitting on the couch, waiting.
"Sit down, Yugyeom. We need to talk" His mother said.
"Ok?" He replied, walking hesitantly over to the blood red couch across from where his parents were sitting.
"Yugyeom, things arent working. We dont know what to do with you anymore. I can deal with you drinking some, youre a teenager and that's how they explore, but you come at unreasonable hours every night, so drunk that you cant even stand up right." Yugyeom stayed silent as he stared down at his fidgeting hands with a furrowed brow. "Weve told you to stay away Jaebum boy, you obviously dont listen. And if you get in trouble at school one more time, theyre going to expel you! But after last night, were done Kim Yugyeom. Having a police officer at 4 in the morning bringing my drunken son home isn't exactly a happy moment in my life"
Ah that explains it, he thought to himself
"We need to do something about this" She continued "Youre going nowhere in life. I just dont know why you cant be like your brother."
And there it was. The thing he hated most, being compared to his perfect little brother. His smart, polite, shy little brother. Sam was the poster child for perfect children. Yugyeoms anger began to boil up inside and he stood up, throwing his hands in the air.
"Because im not Sam, okay?! Ill never be him! im sorry that you only get one perfect son and the other is a total fuck up but thats how it is" Yugyeom yelled.
"Kim Yugyeom" His father stood up from his seat and pointed his index finger at his eldest son. "I you ever use that language towards your mother, or any woman for that matter again, ill smack you so hard, you wont know what hit you" oh the irony.
Yugyeom knew his father would never hit him but he hung his head and mumbled an apology anyway. His dad let out a heavy sigh and sat back down, Yugyeom following his lead.
"Son, we just want you to have a good life. This rebellion is supposed to just be a phase in life but its becoming too much for your mother and I to handle. And think about what it does to Sam. Whats it like for him, to see his older brother, whom he looks up to, waisting his life away. You need some discipline, Yugyeom and obviously were not doing a good job of that so we have come to a very difficult decision" His father paused.
"Oh and whats that?" He snapped
"Were sending you to go live with your uncle for a while" His father told him.
Yugyeom felt as though god had dropped a boulder on his life.
"W-What? Im not going anywhere!" He shouted "I live here! Im not staying with somebody i hardly know all the way across the country! You can forget it!"
"Its not across the country Yugyeom, its like 6 hours away! And its not your decision. Something needs to be done and we think this will be good for you" His mother cut in.
"Whatever, im not going" With that, he turned and stormed from the living room and up the stairs where Sam was seated, his legs pulled into his chest and tears rolled down his soft, splotchy cheeks.
"Im sorry. Im so sorry. I dont want you to be like me, Gyeom. I promise. I love you the way you are. Everyone makes mistakes. I dont want you to go. Don't leave me, Gyeom. I dont want to be alone" the small boy cried.
Yugyeom led the younger boy upstairs and they sat in Yugyeoms bed. He held Sam while he cried, both knowing that their parents had already made up their minds. Yugyeom was going away.
