I woke up to the sound of the front door locking and clicking shut. I picked up my head and saw Jarek, his head resting against the back of the couch. His hand was resting on my back and a blanket was thrown over top of us. I yawned slowly and pulled the blanket off of me. "Calyx?" I said, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. I looked at the cable box, 11. I frowned and turned back to the hall leading to the front door. The hall was thrown in ink black shadows. Suddenly I felt someone grasp my wrist. I instantly reacted, throwing my other fist behind me. I turned with my fist and heard the sickening slap of skin against skin. A loud groan resonated through the bleak apartment. I saw Jarek before me, laying on the floor. His hand was cupping his cheek, the other pushing him off the ground. "Are you ok?" I whispered, picking him off the floor. I didn't feel any guilt, he knew not to sneak up on someone trained in self-defense. Jarek glared at me and moved his hand from his cheek. "The hell is wrong with you?" He whined, moving into the kitchen to get, what I think, was ice. "You know not to sneak up on me." I laughed, walking past him and into the hall. Suddenly I saw a shadow out of the corner of my eye and grasped for it. My hands wrapped around a small wrist. I heard a sharp gasp and instantly recognized who it came from. I let her go. "Calyx, you are an hour late, care to explain?" I said, not even turning to face her, I stomped into the kitchen. My overprotective motherly side taking over. I took care of Calyx, it was my responsibility to take care of her and protect her. "Shiloh, I , uh.... Rexan." She stammered, I could feel her feet shuffling against the thin wood floors. "Not again." I said through clenched teeth. I heard her mumble something and leave the room, walking into her own and shutting the door. Jarek looked at me in surprise. An ice bag was pressed to his cheek. "Wow, I would hate to be your sibling." Jarek teased, grinning at me. I glared back at him. "I have too, Uncle lets us do anything and its dangerous to be out this late, especially with her status." I explained, resting my head in my hands. "Yeah, her status... That's what makes it unsafe for her to be out late." Jarek smiled, obviously trying to tease me. My sister was attractive, she looked much older than her 15 years. She had beautiful short blonde hair and sweet brown eyes. Men wouldn't hesitate to try to take her off the streets. "You think my sister is hot? Maybe I should set you two up..." I began, smirking back at Jarek. "Nah, im more into blue eyed, Auburn haired girls." Jarek laughed. I felt my face heat up, knowing he was describing me. Finally I let my cheeks fall into a light-hearted smile. "Jarek Iver, are you flirting?" I asked, taking on a teasing motherly tone. Jarek softly chuckled, his cheek still hindering his full smile. "I don't know, Shiloh Cage, Am I?" He responded, leaning down on his elbows on the counter in front of me. I smiled and leaned down on the counter across from him. "The only thing you will be flirting with is the sidewalk, I have to get up early and its already almost 12." I said, picking myself up from my elbows and walking to the front door. Jarek groaned loudly behind me and followed me to the door. "Remember, right after the meeting call me, and we'll go have a break day." Jarek smiled, pulling me into one of his smothering bear hugs. l responded to his statement with hugging him back and releasing him outside.
