Present day…

“Delilah, when are you going to tell your parents?” she wined teasing at her lower lip.

“Tell ‘em what?” I was now completely distracted by her body, and of course her eyes.

“That I’m your girlfriend,” she smiled, “I want to go for a walk with you and hold your hand without looking out for your parents.”

This was the first time she referred to me as her girlfriend, I liked like. “When I’m ready, I’m just not ready.”

She pouted, “Delilah.”

“What do you want me to tell them? That I’m having sex with a girl?”I laughed.

“No just that your bi.” She scowled

“Okay Chloe, When do you want me to tell them?” I finally asked

“Tonight?” she smiled.

“Okay I tell them to night, can we finish watching the movie now?” I was a little mad.

“Fine.”

She nestled under my arm and against my waist, probably because I was warmer than her. We were watching Queen of the Damned. I loved that movie. She would laugh abruptly when the queen started burning up the bar; I snickered a little at her reaction. The once let tried to kill Lastat she clinked to my arm like she was scared, even though I knew she wasn’t I let her cling. The movie end, and it was about to turn ten o’ clock.

“Your mom is going to wonder where you are.” I admitted.

“Let them wonder.” She smiled, “It’s not like they approve anyways.”

The door slammed shut.

“My parents are home.” I started to get off the floor.

“Please tell them?” she begged

“Okay, just---just stay up here.” I headed to the door. I was going to tell them, probably get looked down upon then I come upstairs and they’d watch Chloe leave like the shame walk.

“Hi sweetheart.” Smiled my stepmother, Violet. We were both named by flower potters she’d always say.

“Hi, Violet. Umm---?” I started and froze

Tell her!

“I have something to tell you.” I spoke not thinking.

I have to tell her now.

“Yes?” she was unloading some groceries.

“I’m---Well---Well.”

TELL HER!

“Well I’m ---Bi?” It sounded like a question.

She placed the groceries down and looked at me. Actually looked at me for the first time in a while.

“What? Your--?”

“Bi.” I finished her sentence.

“How do you know?” she started, making me feel worst about it.

“I like a girl…” I spoke almost with shame.

“Have you experiment?” she continued, making me prove it. I started to put up my walls like I always did. I started to dig my nails into my wrist.

“I have a girlfriend.” I couldn’t look her in the eyes; I was scared I’d see disapproval, the thing I had been avoiding for months.

“Oh, so, “she seemed to be struggling to find an answer, “I don’t know what to tell you.” She admitted. My heart cracked I knew she hadn’t accepted me; It was there just a little bit deeper than i expected.

“I am going to my room…” I turned and headed to the stairs. I went tears dribbled down my cheeks. Chloe was waiting at the top of the stair case.

“Did you--?” Chloe started.

“Yeah.” I squeaked, “Can I just be alone for a while?”

She nodded and kissed my cheek, “I love you.” She bypassed me down the stairs. In the distance I heard Chloe say Hey to my mom and my mom didn’t reply.

I knew it! Why did I ever even---God! Why do you hate me!? Why—will she ever accept me? Probably not. I wish I was dead. I wish I didn’t tell her.

I started to fiddle with my pocket knife.

What if I just--? Right down my---?

“Delilah?” Violet had made her way up the stair and to my room without a sound, “You know I only--- it will take me some time to get used to it,” she paused and sat beside me, “I love you no matter what.”

I hide the knife behind my back but didn’t hold my sobs back.

“I promise I’ll always love you, just give me some time.”
