I woke up in a dark room. It smelled like cleaner and disinfectant. A single, sad balloon hung from my bed side. I had no idea who I was or what I was doing in that room. I slowly slid out of the bed and walked to the closed window. The tile was freezing against my bare feet but i hardly noticed. I pulled the blinds up and blinked in the sudden light.

A city lay stretched out before me. Cars raced by and children played in a near-by park like nothing was wrong. Like everything was perfect. The door creaked open but i didnt bother turning around. "...Mia?" a soft voice whispered, shocked and curious.

Mia.

Was that me? There wasn't anyone else in the room so I didn't have a choice but to turn around. A small, petite girl, maybe 16, stood with her mouth open in shock. She had shoulder length blonde hair and chocolate brown eyes. She was kind of short, like an elf. An awkward scilence settled over us as we sat staring at eachother, studying eachother. Time stood still as we waited for the other to make the first move. I finally straightened up and spoke. "...Hi."

The tension was broken and the girl raced at me, throwing her arms around my neck. I tensed up and stood still- what else could I do? This girl was a complete stranger to me. I guess she could feel my confusion because she pulled back and held me at my shoulders.

"Oh my gosh. You don't remember me, do you?"

"Sorry." I felt completely helpless and there was nothing I could do about it.

"Mia, you've just woken up from a 3 year coma. You were going to be announced unresponsive today. Don't you have any idea how this makes me feel?" I didn't know what to say so I didn't say anything. I didn't know anything, really. I didn't know who I was, who she was, where I was, or what I was doing there, but I just knew that I had to find out.
