24. The Temple Of Graces

"Brother of Hades, I have been waiting."
"What is it about her that calls you so, Uchiha, that you need bring in Naruto?"

"Aglaea, leave us be."
"Fuka. Is. My. Name."

"He is infatuated with this - this puny weakling!? I am a far, far better catch!"

"If not you, then, who?"
"That is the real question, is it not, lord Sa-su-ke?"

"I cannot hang on any longer. I am sorry to have to leave you like this, Sakura."

"Sasuke! Where are you!?"

25. Within

The world around me feels bleak. As if I have just lost sense of everything that is happening, all over again. I can see things but, they don't make sense.

Like why Naruto is suddenly running toward me or why suddenly, my feet have left the ground. I don't know what my body is feeling. There's pain everywhere. The goddess of healing is swimming in and out of my field of vision.

I don't know how much time has passed or what actually happened but, I am starting to retrieve my perception. It only makes my body feel worse. My throat is burning, my stomach hurts and basically, my whole body is being pricked with a large collection of needles.

A blonde head blocks my view. Naruto's ocean blue eyes glance at me worriedly.

"Sakura? Can you hear me?" he asks.

"It..hurts," I croak out with much difficulty. My throat pricks when I try to talk.

His face relaxes. "She's okay," he announces to someone behind him. "You'll be okay," he assures me. "We will return you home soon as it is over."

Home? What about Sasuke?

It is as if a thorn is stuck in my windpipe. I need to know! Where is he? What happened to him? But, the pain is escalating and all I can hear leaving my mouth are bouts of screams.

A warm hand encloses mine and for one moment, I can trick myself into believing it is his. Because, he is my pillar. I need him to be here. But, he is gone. I have to find him. I've got to find him.

For that, I have got to wake up.

To my horror, my eyes begin drawing a blank as, slowly, the pain begins ebbing.

🔯

When I wake, no temple carvings are overhead, no smell of herbs surround me. Its a blank. Just a pale, yellow blank with a mild scent of something I can't quite put my finger on.

Familiarity strikes me like a sour shot of panic in my chest. Alert, I sit up and shoot a distraught glance around the well acquainted room. This can't be right. Scrambling off the bed, I dart toward the window. The same old driveway.
