jaebum was worried.

after the incident in the cafeteria, dahyun ran out and hadn't returned. she went to none of her classes. He had returned home without making sure she got home safely.

he couldn't work on his homework, his mind was too consumed with the thought of dahyun. he couldn't understand what went wrong. yesterday was perfect. today was. . .the opposite. what could've made her change so quickly?

"why are you pacing so much?" his mother questioned, coming home from a grocery store trip.

"it's dahyun," he mumbled.

"alright. what happened?" she asked as she placed the bags on the counter.

"she disappeared." jaebum said, running his hand through his hair.

"explain?"

"there's this nasty group of girls at school," he sighed, shaking his head. "they did some things to her at lunch. she ran off and i haven't seen her since."

she looked at her son in pity. "she probably went home. don't think about it too much." she patted his back.

"yeah, you're probably right," he sighed. he went up to his room, laying down on his bed, staring at the ceiling above him.

"stay safe, dahyun."

after hours, jaebum finally decided to stop worrying and believe his mother's words. she must've gone home and just decided to stay there.

it was probably around 8 pm, he had ate dinner a couple hours before. he still had homework to complete, which he dreaded, but was still obedient to complete. he listened to the sound of rain droplets pelting against the window as the storm intensified.

around 30 minutes later there was knock on the door.

"jaebum, can you answer that?" his mother called from downstairs.

he obediently stood up, walking downstairs. he passed by her office, noticing how concentrated she was in her work.

his mom was a fashion designer, but she preferred to work at home. he could see her forehead creased in concentration as she flipped through papers.

he walked up to the door, pulling it open. he was surprised at who he saw.

standing there in all her glory, was dahyun. she was bruised, with cuts all around her body. she looked weak and tired. she was drenched by the rainwater.

"d-dahyun, hey. uh, are you--"

"can i stay for the night? please," she pleaded, her eyes begging.

"yeah, of course. c-come in," he stuttered, moving aside to let her in.

"who is it?" his mother walked out of her office and saw the sight of dahyun. "omo, are you alright?"

dahyun didn't answer her and just stared at the ground.

"she needs to stay the night." jaebum said, looking at his mother pleadingly.

"of course! jaebum, why don't you go get her some warm clothes and get her situated in the guest room. did you eat? i can fix you up some dinner if you'd like."

dahyun nodded, continuing to look at the ground. jaebum took her hand, bringing her upstairs. he led her to their guest bedroom, right next to his own.

dahyun sat on the edge of the bed. jaebum went into the bathroom connected to the bedroom and got her a towel. he handed it to her and she took it, wiping her face.

"i'll go, uh, get you some clothes," he said before leaving the room.

he grabbed one of his soft t-shirts from his room and grabbed a pair of pajama shorts from his mother's room. he walked back to the guest room and gave her the clothes. she said nothing as she went to the bathroom to change.

a knock on the door and jaebum looked up to see his mother with a tray of food in her hand. some rice, a couple of side dishes, and some soup. she placed it on one of the bedside tables.

"take care of her, jb. she needs someone," she said before she left the room.

shortly after dahyun came out from the bathroom. the shirt was obviously way too big for her, reaching down to her mid thighs. but jaebum loved the way she looked in his clothes. she sat back on the bed, looking down.

"my mom brought some food," jaebum said, pushing the tray towards her.

"i'll eat later."

jaebum nodded. he noticed her wounds and frowned. moving to the bathroom, he retrieved the first aid kit. he moved back and sat next to her, facing her.

he opened the kit and took out a disinfectant. wetting a cotton ball with the disinfectant, he moved towards her and brushed her hair out of the wait.

"this might sting."

he dabbed the cotton ball over the cut on her cheekbone. she didn't wince once. he took a bandaid and placed it on the cut. she stared blanklessly into space.

he began to treat the rest of her wounds and he noticed the scars on her left wrist, leading all the way down to her elbow. she pulled away when she saw him staring.

"sorry."

he finished treating her wounds and packed everything back into the first aid kit. he placed it back in the bathroom before walking back out to the guestroom.

"so, what happened?"

"i don't want to talk about it," she said, laying down and pulling the covers over her.

he sighed. "well, if you need me, my room is right next to yours."

he walked out of the guestroom after glancing at her one last time. he closed the door behind him and sighed.

"at least she's safe."
