Later that day I found myself bored. Besides my laptop, I had very little else to do in my house. It had come to the point where I felt like I had played every game, watched every video, and listened to every song. I was at a loss of what to do, and I definitely wasn't bored enough to go and strike up a conversation with my family.
My mind jumped back to the memory of earlier, and the face of the guy appeared in my head, the enchanting gaze, his gorgeous smile. I reached for my phone and scrolled through my phone book for his number, his name was saved as Daniel. Was I bored enough to actually talk to some random dude I met in a store?
Fuck it, what'd I have to lose? I could always block his number if he turned out to be a psycho.
"Heyy, this is the dude you met in the store today, what's up?" I typed out, after deciding that it was a good first message, I sent it and waited. The wait wasn't long, a few seconds later my phone vibrated again.
"Hey dude, I was worried you wouldn't message me. I'm cool, hanging at home" He replied. We texted back and forth for a bit.
"I almost didn't, it's not every day people approach you in the store and ask for your number haha"
"Sorry again for being so forward, I just didn't think I'd get another opportunity"
"Another opportunity to what?"
"To talk to you, it wasn't really the best place to strike up a conversation, so this is the next best thing, right?"
"I guess, but why did you really want my number?"
"I wanted to talk to you obviously. You're cute, I wanted to get to know you better. Especially now that I know I have a chance"
"lmaoo thanks, I was pretty suspicious at first, but I figured you couldn't possibly do much harm being so short."
"Woooww, what's wrong with being short?"
"Nothing at all, I just never thought I'd meet a guy shorter than me."
"A joker, huh? I like that"
"Let's see how long that lasts :P"
It felt natural texting him, he didn't seem to mind my sarcastic humor and I didn't mind being complimented either. We texted for a while longer, then a while longer turning into a lot longer. We talked about anything and everything. Friends, family, school, favorite music, on and on.
-------------
Daniel and I had been talking to each other a few weeks now. I had always been one to fall for someone quickly, and although I hadn't yet, I knew it was coming.
My family was busy today preparing to host a barbecue for a small family reunion. I strayed away from the socializing as I normally would. While everyone else was outside talking I spent the day hidden in my room. I hated barbecues. Loud music, annoying relatives and their even more annoying children everywhere. The only good thing about them was the food.
I had snuck out my room only long enough to steal some of the food when my phone started ringing. I looked at the screen and as I read my heart skipped a beat when i saw his name on it.
Immediately as I got back to my room I picked up.
"Hey you." I said,
"Hey stranger, what you up to." his voice answered back.
"Family's having a barbecue, not that I'm part of it, why?"
"No reason, wanted to see if you wanted to hang out."
There was a pause in the conversation. He had asked me to hang out before, but I always managed weaseled my way out of it. I was way too nervous to, what if I said something wrong, did something stupid? There was no screen to hide behind. What would I say?
