Chapter 1

"Alright, see ya!" I yelled to my friends.

School was dismissed, and I was walking home alone. I walked down the leaf-strewn sidewalk. The driving rain pattered against my rain coat.

I checked my phone. 2:04 PM it read.

I cursed under my breath. I only had 20 percent of battery remaining. I shrugged. It would be easier for me to focus on my homework anyway.

I concentrated on walking, the sound of the rain soothing me.

I suddenly felt my backpack being tugged at. Then, I was picked up. Although I didn't know who it was, I knew well enough that whoever this person was, they were trying to kindap me.

"HELP! I DO NOT KNOW THIS PERSON! STRANGER DANGER! STRANGER DANGER! AHH!" I screamed with all of my might. I yelled aloud everything to yell when you are being kidnapped.

"Shut up!" the person yelled with a rough voice. It was a male.

He cupped a rough hand over my mouth. I tried biting one of his fingers. When I managed to bite his finger, he released his strong grip, yelling in pain.

I took the opportunity to run away as fast as I could. He ran faster.

He grabbed one of my legs. I yelped in pain. I felt the coldness of the wet sidewallk against my stomach as I was dragged by my feet. I struggled to fight back. The rain stung my eyes. It was hard for me to see.

I looked and saw the blurred shape of the man, who was now trying to get me into the trunk of his car. I fought back, but he eventually managed stuffing me in.

He shut the trunk casually, as if he didn't just kidnap someone.

I coughed, breathing in the fumes of this musty car.

I instantly grabbed my phone out of my pocket. I immediately turned the brightness all the way down, as it helps you preserve battery life. I dialed 911, my hands shaking. I realized that I didn't have my backpack with me.

Must have fallen off while he was trying to get me into his trunk, I thought.

"911, what's your emergency?" a female on the other line said.

"Help me! I'm being kidnapped," I whispered hoarsely.

"What street are you on? We need to locate your phone," she said.

"Near Bridgewood High School," I replied quickly.

"Okay, got it. We have your device tracked. Now, look for a lever. Usually, old cars have levers that allow you to break the tail lights off."

I searched for a lever. I pulled it, my palms slipping. I finally got it. I kicked off the tail light.

"Okay, I got it."

"Good, now stick your hand out of the opening and wave your hand."

I waved until I didn't think I could wave any longer, the rain stopping.

"Is there anything else in that car?"

I scanned my eyes around the trunk. I noticed that there were some tools and cans of paint.

"There's some tools and cans of paint," I said.

"Try using one of the tools to open a can of paint," she said.

I pried the can open with a crowbar.

"After the can is open, start pouring it out of the hole."

I poured the paint out of the can, hoping that someone would notice.

I was about ready to open the next can of paint, but I noticed something.

My phone was dead.
