Somewhere in Europe, just before World War Two.

The eight year old girl pushed her short brown hair out of her face. Her eyes glowed a dangerous red, but even at her young age, you could see she was going to be beautiful.

She crawled forwards through the air shaft, slipping out and landing lightly on the ground, soundless despite the acoustics of the corridor. She padded forwards into the SHIELD lab, adjusting the scarf tied over her mouth and pulling a dagger from her combat vest.

The eight year old girl threw the blade expertly. It flipped end over end through the air once, twice, and embedded itself into the back of the man. He cried out before he died, collapsing onto the cold grey floor, medical instruments scattering around him.

The girl’s face creased in irritation, but still with the same implacable calm behind her eyes, the calm that had killed hundreds. She pulled out a sword, dispatching the guards that came at the cry of the man. She showed no emotion at the bloodbath, despite the hesitation of the guards to attack or injure a child.

Exiting the building, she nodded at the man, her handler, in combat black who had been awaiting her return. “It is done.”

Her glowing red eyes faded through turquoise blue to a stormy grey, and she collapsed to the ground, gasping and crying.

The man handcuffed her and swung her into the truck before he began the long drive back to base. HYDRA was waiting for the Midnight Assassin to return.
