The next day Sirius was adamant to know about James' feelings for Lily. Breakfast in the Great Hall was usually a noisy experience, but today it was unusually quiet. Sirius scooted up the bench so he would be next to James, and threw a chunk of bacon into James' messy dark hair. He lifted his long, thin fingers and picked out the bacon. "What the hell?"
"So James, what's all this about Lily?"
"Oh shut up"
"No. You said her name while the question was still being asked!"
"Woah Sirius bit of an exaggeration there"
"Yeah, but-"
"Look", James sighed, standing up slowly. "I don't want to talk about it. Maybe another time, ok? I'm still thinking things through at the moment."

As James walked down the long Great Hall, Sirius felt a pang of pain inside of him. James was his best friend, why would he not talk to him? Admittedly, Sirius didn't talk to James much about girls, but he didn't have much trouble with them. If he didn't like them, he didn't talk about them, and if he did like them he was smooth enough to get them. But surely the fact that he didn't talk to James about it didn't mean that James would hold something against him and not talk to him? Bacon and eggs on Sirius' plate stared up at him willing him to eat them, their smells wafting towards his nose tantalisingly.

Suddenly, Sirius snapped out of his stupor. A stunning auburn headed girl had caught his attention further down the Gryffindor table. Of course, it was Evans. As beautiful as she was, Sirius had never had any feelings for her- she was too close to Snivellus Snape. But he had to admit her looks were starting to edge towards him more. Quickly he pushed the thought out of his mind. James was the priority when it came to Lily. Down at the other end of the hall, James' tall form disappeared from view through the titanic doors. Sirius' eyes flicked back to Lily, and he saw her stare at the large doors. The large doors James had just walked through. A delicate hand pushed the auburn hair out of her eyes, and feeling a stare on her, she turned around. Green and grey eyes met across the table, and Sirius could see that her face was turning red. He winked slyly at the blushing girl, and jumped over the bench to swagger back to the Gryffindor common room.
