In the Gryffindor girls dormitory Lily lay in her bed, thinking about James. Why had she looked at him in potions? He would think she liked him! Come to think of it though, his messy hair had always been kind of attractive, and his constantly lopsided glasses... She cut off the thought. Head Girl couldn't fall for Head Boy. Anyway, he was rude and she was certain he didn't work hard. Well, she'd never looked at his work or his grades but he always had a 'too cool for school' air about him. Of course, there was also everything that went on with Sev. He had been Lily's first wizard friend, but James thoroughly disliked him. Although it wasn't just James- all his friends, and many other people thought Sev was sour. Lily thought about how James treated Sev:
"Oi, Snivellus, greased your hair up again?"
"Levicorpus!"
"Ha! Look at him, hanging there. Come on, let's go guys, maybe Snivellus can grease himself out of the situation"
As Severus hung there Lily always felt sorry for him, and usually helped him get back down. Recently, though, she had noticed that he was making new friends. Friends in Slytherin who believed in Pure-Blood supremacy and who thought muggle borns shouldn't be allowed into Hogwarts. Being a muggle born herself, Lily obviously didn't agree with any of their ideas, and she had noticed the change in Sev's personality. She didn't want to be around him any more. Maybe it was time to make new friends. She settled under her covers and decided that it was time. Soon, she'd go up to James and become friends with him.

That night Lily dreamt of James. His messy hair and crooked glasses flicked and wobbled as he laughed. He must have been telling jokes, because every so often he'd burst out in laughter, but it was silent to her. She couldn't hear what he was saying or hear his laughter, but suddenly she could hear a whispering, slowly getting louder. "Lily, Lily, Lily, Lily, Lily..." She couldn't pick out the whispering voice but as the volume picked up she was sure she'd be able to distinguish it soon. "Lily...Lily? Potter? What about me, you know how he acts. Potter?" In a flash it hit her: it was Severus. "Potter doesn't deserve you Lily. Why do you even think about him? Lily... Think about me, about me," Lily could feel her heart start to race as Severus' voice rose higher. "Think about me Lily, about me, ABOUT MEEE." She sat up, sweating, as Severus' shouting voice echoed throughout her head. She needed to talk to Sev, but even as the thought started to process itself in her head her head hit the pillow, and she was asleep again. She didn't dream again that night.
