A page turned, then another, and then another. Each page depicting a beautiful woman with a tail replacing the lower half of her body; mermaids, "Yes... yes this is what I need." The man holding the book said. The man was in his early twenties and was sitting at a desk in what appeared to be a vast library.
"Prince Hans?" a voice asked, it was his father's advisor from Weselton; Duke, "May I ask what it is you're doing?" the short German man asked
"Research, studying what I think could be quite promising." The prince said closing the book.
"What?" he asked his eyes narrowing in suspicion behind his glasses. The prince stood up and walked to a nearby shelf.
"Duke," Hans began as he put the book back on the shelf and grabbed another one about mythology and he turned to the desired page, "what do you know about mermaids?" he asked as he walked back to his desk.
Duke scoffed, "Mermaids? Those cursed witches are nothing but superstitious nonsense." He said.
The prince looked at Duke, "I always thought you were a firm believer in sorcery and all that as you say 'superstitious nonsense' am I correct?" Hans asked.
"Sorcery yes, but beautiful sea maidens that prey on unlucky sailors. That is nonsense." He said defending himself.
"That may be true, but there are other things about mermaids that have captured my interest," Hans said putting the open book on the desk next to him, "They have magical properties in every part of their bodies, their hair, scales, blood, and most especially in their tears." Hans explained, "If the proper ritual is used than the magic can be extracted from these sources and give it to another source giving it great power." Now Duke looked a little more interested.
"That does sound quite promising, but that doesn't disregard the fact that they're still very dangerous. Their beauty makes any man falter enough so that before you can try to capture one they've already got you at the bottom of the ocean." He said.
"Yes that is a problem," Hans said, he read that the magic of mermaids only lasted as long as the mermaid was alive. He looked out the window when something caught his eye, a ship was coming into port. The (F/C) color flag with the (F/S) insignia on the flag was proof as to who the ship belonged to, "or maybe not, we just need someone... experienced." He said.
The Singing Siren was one of the most popular taverns for in the Southern Isles, people would go there to share stories, drink strong drinks of all kinds and just have a good time. The door to the tavern opened and everyone turned to see who was coming in.
The man who entered was about 22 years old with a strong build and (S/C) skin, his slightly longer than medium length (H/C) hair was slightly windblown and there was a captain's hat over it there was a very slight amount of facial hair on his face. A dark seaman's coat that was faded due to salt water spray was worn over a (F/C) shirt, dark pants and black boots. A leather belt with a gold buckle was around his waist with a sword attached at his side. His most noticeable feature was a long scar that started at his forehead and went down, across his right eye and ended at the bottom of his cheek.
"Captain (Y/N) (L/N)," the bartender said with a laugh, "the usual I presume."
You smiled showing off perfect teeth, "That's right, bring me a couple I have quite a few stories to tell." You said taking off your hat and putting it down.
Half an hour past and a group had formed itself around you as you spun the tale of your most recent adventure, "-And that's how I learned not to mess with the captain of Corona's security."
Somebody laughed, "Oh please (Y/N), no king in his right mind would leave a horse in charge of their guards."
You nodded, "That's what I thought too," you said before bringing the tankard to your lips and drink its contents, "a mistake I know not to make. If any of you ever visit Corona, try not to mess with the guard, especially if they're with a white horse." you said to everyone some of them just laughed.
