Nico ran across the kitchen counter in near pure terror. He'd lost track of time while eating some of the new breakfast cereal Will had bought, and now it was about 10:30 pm. Will would be home any second now. Will was the human who Nico shared a house with, however unwittingly. Nico, unlike the human, was a borrower. He lived in the little 'mouse holes' of Will's small New York apartment. Will had no idea of Nico's presence, but that would soon change if Nico didn't hurry up and get out of the open.
In all his rush, he almost dropped his grappling hook. That would not have been good, seeing as the small fish hook and length of wire was his only way off the counter if he didn't plan on jumping. There should be an opening to his home above the kitchen cabinets, which were usually filled with cups and bowls that were bigger than the whole of Nico's small body, if he could only reach it. Just as he tossed his grappling hook up to the ledge on the white painted kitchen cabinets, his attention was drawn to the sound of the front door creaking as it opened.
