I watched as my mother packed the last of her possessions into her boxes with sadness clearly visible in her eyes.

"why would he do this to us"  I thought.

He just stood there watching as we packed up our bag. What disgusted me was he hadn't even waited until we left to get 'frisky '   with his new wife, he and mum have barely been divorced a month and he's already moved on!

"with a women half his age too!"my conscience hissed.

I turned my head towards my mothers direction but immediately I regretted that. She looked so pale. Gone was her bright chocolate brown eyes and in it's place were dull flickers of what she used to be.

"Come on kids we have a long journey ahead of us" stated my mother.

My little brother hobbled along the path, running straight to my dad and wrapping his arms around his torso, begging him to let us stay.
I watched as my father's 'new wife' sneered at my brother while my father tried to pry the five year olds hands off of him.

"Come on Johnny, we have to leave now," I try to reason with my brother. Key word 'try'.

"No I wanna stay with Dada" whines the child still latched onto his father.

"This fucker lost the title of 'Dada' the second he banged that women next to him," I bluntly comment until realization dawns on me.

"Shit" I mutter under my breath.

"Venus Maxwell Jacobs I will not tolerate such behaviour! Apologise immediately!" My mother hisses.

I stare at the women like she'd grown a second head, prepared to laugh at her 'joke' only to realise it wasn't a joke. My father stared at my mother and for a second, just a second, I thought I saw a glimmer of affection but it vanished the second it appeared.

"Don't do drugs kids" I stated only to mentally laugh at the thought of a high Venus.

"Sorry," I mutter "I'll be waiting in the car," I add.

"Good bye Alexandra, Evangeline. I wish you nothing but the best" says my mother softly before walking back down the path with my brothers hand encased in hers.

She helped my brother into the passenger seat and adjusted the seat belt before she too jumped into the car and repeated the same action.

"Venus" she warns sternly.

I grumble under my breath before I grab the seat belt and latch it on roughly.

"Good girl" she praises.

"I'm not a dog" I huff.

"Could have fooled me" states my little brother.

Even in the predicament we were in, we all couldn't help but laugh and for the first time in a while I, Venus Maxwell Jacobs felt reassured.
