Step... step... step... Just a normal walk like it always is with Kevin. We were walking to the store to get a few things since we didn't think driving would be necessary since the store was only 5 minutes from our house. We turned the corner and passed the same abandoned house that we always pass. Creaky, old, grey, dull. Nobody lived in it for at least 5 or 10 years. Kevin quicken his step and so did I. Until I heard screaming and crying coming from the house. I immediately stopped walking, but Kevin quickened his step even more, to the point where he was jogging. My heart was going to pound out of my chest.. I was going to yell to him but I remembered that he had his headphones in. I looked back up at the house, where the screams and cries continued. I walked up to the path leading into the house, but then realized that Kevin was so far in front of me, and was about to turn the corner... I had no choice but to continue walking. I took one last glance at the house and walked back down the path. I couldn't stop thinking about the cries coming from the house. High pitched and full of sorrow, sadness and fear. Why didn't I stop and help? I'm an idiot a.... monster.... somebody could be getting possibly murdered and I just walked by. I was stopped by a arm shooting out over my chest. I looked over and saw that Kevin stuck his arm out in front of me because I was about to walk into the oncoming rush hour traffic. "Thanks." I mouthed to him since I know he can't hear me. He gave a thumbs up and waited for our turn to walk. The small pedestrian lit up across the street and a horde of people including Kevin and I started to cross the road. I heard a scream similar to the one I had heard earlier coming from the house, and I stopped dead in the road. The hand started to flash on the other side of the road and the last few slow walkers finished crossing and I was just standing there. "AVI!!" Kevin yelled at me, snapping me out of my trance. We ran out of the road as quick as possible, ignoring the beeping cars. "What the hell was that?" Kevin says, in concern. "I don't know I heard something, almost like a scream." I said to him. "Well you might be imagining things, because I took off my headphones when I crossed the road, and heard nothing." Kevin says. I looked to the ground. Great, now I'm hallucinating. I just shake my head and walk towards the store, tears clouding my vision, Kevin shortly following. "If you ever want to talk about it, I'm here." Kevin says, patting my back. I nod. We get the few things we need and start to head back. "Hey, do you think we could take a different way home?" I ask him. Oh, headphones, forgot. I tap his shoulder and he pauses his music. "Yeah?" He looks at me. "I was wondering if we could take a different way home, like so we don't walk past that house." I shiver slightly at the thought of the house. "Yeah, sure." Kevin says, slightly confused. We take the longer way home, and even if it hurts my arms by carrying the bags, I would rather have my arms hurt then listen to the saddening screams. We finally make it home and I run in front of kev and into the house. "Hey!" Scott says. "What took you so long?" Kirstie asks, appearing behind Scott "Um there w-" "We took a longer route home." Kevin says, cutting me off. I shoot him a quick death glare and he shrugs and walks into the kitchen with the bags. "Ok.." Scott says, slightly confused. I follow kev into the kitchen with my bags. I drop them on the table and hurry up to my room quickly. I go in my room and sit on my bed. I need to go back. I have to help him or her. It hurts me to think about someone in that amount of distress "AVI!" Scott yells at me. I didn't even notice he was in my room. I also didn't even know I was crying. I wipe away my tears and say."I need to go back." Scott looked very confused, and called Kevin in. Kevin walked in and when he saw me crying, he instantly started his series of questions. "The h-house." Is all that I manage to say. Kevin looks at Scott and whispers something to him. Scott nods and leaves. Kevin says very softly,"Is it because of the house we passed?" I nod, tears still flowing. He pats my back and says."Do you want to go back there?" I nod my head vigorously and he gets up. I get up as well and wipe away my tears.

5 minutes later, we are at the same abandoned house that had caused my hallucinations and guilt. Kevin walks up the path first and I shortly follow. He walks through the non existent door of the creaky house and turns the on the flash on his phone. I turn on my flash as well. "I heard screaming and cry coming from here today." I tell him. He nods and says,"I'm going to look upstairs and you can look downstairs for anyone." He says. I nod  and walk around. The floors creaked with every step I took and cobwebs covered everything. When I walked into the kitchen, a horrible  smell filled the air, causing me to double over for a second. My eyes started to water as I continued to scan the kitchen. Dusty knifes and... is that blood? I walk a bit closer and see that one of the knifes had a little bit of blood on it. My heart began to race and I started to panic. Then I heard soft whimpers coming from the basement followed by muttered words.

I opened the basement door which looked like it was going to fall off the hinges. I flashed my light directly door the stairs as I slowly walked down the stairs. Creak... creak... creak. The crying became a lot louder as I got closer to the end of the stairs, but they seemed... muffled.

I finally got down the creaky stairs and the horrible smell returned, a lot more rancid. It was coming from my right. I panned my flashlight around the basement and what I saw made me instantly double over and throw up.
