The early morning light shone just barely through the clouds as Opal Masters weaved through the crowd of fishermen with a suitcase in her hand and a baby on her hip. She wasn't sure exactly what, or rather who, she was looking for, all she knew was that she was looking for a group of scientists. The dock was warped from years of water erosion that made it nearly impossible to walk across. As Opal was looking down, she failed to notice the handsome man on her left until she bumped into his side and knocked his clipboard into the murky water below.
"Oh goodness!" She exclaimed, thoroughly embarrassed. "I'm so sorry! Was that important?"
The man opposite her looked down into the water and sighed.
"It's alright. It was an attendance checklist of everyone on my ship, but we were only missing one crew member and a passenger. I think I remember their descriptions."
He looked up at Opal for the first time, and their eyes locked.
"Dark skin, brown eyes, curly black hair, you must be Ms. Masters!" He broke into a grin. "Opal, right?" She nodded, already having fallen for his silky Scottish brogue. "And this little guy must be Davie." He smiled and tickled the toddler's small foot. "His eyes are as blue as the deep sea. I'm Benjamin... Benjamin Octurn. Follow me, I'll show you to your living quarters."
They went over to a small submarine off the side of the dock and climbed over a stepladder into the blue interior of the ship. It had a front room lined with a panel of buttons and posters advertising safety procedures surrounding a watertight door that led to another semi-circle room with a large window, a couple of chairs bolted to the floor and five wetsuits hanging on a row of hooks. Opal sat Davie down on the floor of this room and then she looked up at Benjamin.
     "Is this my living quarters?"
Benjamin laughed and pushed down one of the many buttons on the control panel. A glass windshield closed down on the front of the sub and a steering wheel popped out. He grabbed the wheel with a smile and the sub submerged with a satisfying schloop! Had Opal not been distracted by all of the beautiful fish she suddenly saw in the bay, she would've been annoyed with Benjamin for not answering her question. She bent down, picked up her young son, and held him next to the window where he cooed and pointed at the fish. It hadn't even been five minutes after pulling away from the dock when they slowed down again.
"Come over here," Benjamin exclaimed in a whisper, "you'll like this even more!"
     "What is that?!" Opal gasped.
"That," said Benjamin, "is our new home."
