[Chapter four]"Hypnotized"
*"Max, can you hear me?"
An echoing voice entered my head. I tried responding but my mouth wouldn't move.
"Max, if you can hear me move your index finger."
Yeah because moving my fucking finger was alot easier that saying 'yeah random voice I can hear you.' I tried anyway and just as I had suspected none of my body wanted to cooperate with me.
"Okay max, when I snap my fingers you'll wake up. On the count of three. One..... Two....Three."
Snap
My eyes opened and the first thing I saw was that bastered Dr. White.
"What the actual fuck dude?!" I was really honestly getting tired of waking up and asking the same questions over and over.
"Great it worked!"
"What are you talking about?"
"We conducted a hypnatisim exercise to see how bad your condition is, I have concluded that with some therapy and abrasive clinical help you may be able to return to a normal life."
"Abrasive clinical help? May be able to?" I scoffed at the audacity of this man.
"Abrasive action is seriously needed here Ms. Blue. Without this help you'll never be the same."
"What if I don't want the life I had before all of this! What if the thought of going back to how things were drives me deeper into this thing that's taking over me!? And what the hell kind of "abrasive help" are you talking about? What are you going to do to me?"
Dr. White just stared at max, contemplating the reactions he would get from the answer he gave her.
He tried to put it as delicately as he knew how. Not to spare her feelings or worry but so she wouldn't snap and attack him again.
"Now we normally don't take this route but the measure of your condition is spiraling out of control. I've spoken with some other doctors, highly respected doctors, and we feel it would be best to do a surgical procedure on your brain taking the part that is causing this illness out. This would not effect you in anyway other than helping you become normal again."
Max's eye twitched.
They wanted to cut her head open and remove part of her brain to make her 'normal' ?
Hell no.
She got a feral look in her eyes and this alarmed Dr. White. He was scared she would try and attack him again and she saw this.
With a fleeting memory she remember what happened last time she had hurt Dr. White. She didn't want to go back to sleep yet. She wanted to get out of there and keep her brain whole so she kept calm. Thought this out.
Getting up Max proceeded to ask the following questions.
"Dr. White, are you married?"
"I'm sorry Max but I'm not allowed to share those kinds of things with you." he didn't seem sorry in the least.
"I was just wondering. I noticed you didn't have a wedding ring and we are in your office right? I don't see any pictures of a family."
She made her way closer to Dr. White swaying her hips as she walked.
He looked at her warily.
"Max please return to your seat."
"How old are you Dr. White?" she was right in front of him now, bending down to sit on her knees. She laid her head on his lap and moved his hand to stroke her hair.
"Max-"
"I just want to know Dr. White. A little thing like age can't hurt anything."
"I'm 34"
Max thought about this. He was old enough to be her dad but dire situations called for dire measures.
Dr. White was now stroking her hair on his own now. He paused as she got up and straddle his lap. She laid her head on his shoulder.
"I'm scared." she whispered in his ear.
"Everything is going to be okay max." he was stroking her hair again.
She shifted in his lap a little bit, rolling her hips as she did so. Dr. White sharply inhaled.
"Max I thi-"
"Maxie." she corrected.
"What?"
"Will you please call me Maxie. It makes me feel better, calmer."
"Uh, okay, Maxie I think you should get up and return to your spot on the couch."
Her eyes welled up with tears.
"Why doesn't anyone want to get close to me?"
Dr. White paused. He couldn't tell if she was genuinely hurt or putting on a facade.
"Sometimes you hurt people Maxie. Their scared."
"Are you scared Dr. White?"
She sniffled, waiting for his answer.
"Yes, a little bit."
"I'm scared of me too."
"You don't have to be Maxie. We're going to make everything okay again."
"No Dr. White. That's not what I mean. I'm scared of my normal self. I'm scared of being like you."
Dr. White wasn't really sure how he was supposed to take that. He didn't care that Max had insulted him. No, what he was concerned about was Maxie. He felt sorry for her. Her home life hadn't been the best and her mental state of being wasnt healthy for anyone. He wanted to help her. He wanted to make every last ounce of pain drift away. He had to help Maxie. His Maxie.
"Please don't hurt me Dr. White." Max looked at him with tear brimmed eyes and Lucas White felt his heart tear in half.
"I will never hurt you Maxie."
As she looked at him and saw the heartbreak in his eyes she knew she had him right where she wanted him. She just had to play this game a little bit longer and she would be out of this joint.
Through little sobs she asked him questions about himself and vise versa. Dr. White told himself that this was going to help her treatment and maybe he truly believed it but deep down inside he knew he was getting into deep shit letting his guard down like this.
"What's your full name?" Max asked.
"Lucas W. Kurtz."
"Why do you go by White?"
"My mom never used my last name. It reminded her of my father. He left when I was a new born and never tried to reenter my life. I decided that I would make things easy for her and just use White for when she visited me here."
"Oh." Max wondered what it would be like having a good relationship with her mom. She thought about it until her thoughts ran together like a train crash. She fell asleep in Dr. Whites arms.
