Maya awoke to the sound of her alarm going off, and couldn't help but groan at the thought of school. She hated every second of it, yet she managed to maintain a 3.8 GPA.

She tiredly rubbed her eyes, and let out a yawn. School was an absolute nightmare for the blonde. She didn't have any friends, no one to rely on; she was alone. Her mother worked day and night. She understood that she had to work, but all Maya wanted was for someone to be there. After all, her best friend did leave her. At least, that's how she sees it.

Maya made her way over the mirror to brush out her head full of lushes, long, blonde hair. The girl had completely given up on her appearance long ago. The only thing she ever did now was brush her hair. Her clothes were always very dark, and baggy.

The kids at her school always viewed her as a "freak" or "scary," but Maya was definitely the complete opposite, but nobody knew that.

As she brushed her hair, Maya sees the photograph of young Riley and her at age seven. She had completely forgotten she even had the photograph. The girls were happy, and holding each other close as they posed for the camera. Maya remembered everything about that day. Her and Riley had just swam in the lake. Their hair was giant mess, but they didn't care because they had each other. Maya still could not comprehend as to why Riley, one of the only few people she loved, left.

Maya hated Riley for leaving. She hated herself even more for not getting over this, but how could she? The only person who truly cared about her left...just like her father.

The longer Maya looked at the photograph, the more sadness and anger built up inside her. She quickly wiped the tear of her cheek, not even realized she had been crying, and stuffed the picture into a random drawer. She let out a huff and stormed out of her room.

Her morning was off to a bad start. She quickly rushed to the subway station to wait for the next train to arrive. As soon as she aboard the train, she plugged in her headphones and ignored the rest of the world.

"You can do this, you can do this," she told herself. She would become nervous as soon as she'd board the train since she knew that she'd have a long day ahead of her.

As soon as she arrived, the blonde made her way to her locker, her head hung low in fear not wanting to make eye contact with anyone. She quickly grabbed her books, and made her way out to the lawn to kill time before her class started.

Everyday she'd sit at the same bench. Most of time, she'd doodle in her sketchbook, if not she'd be day dreaming. She always had a lot on her mind. She'd picture herself in scenarios that, to her, would never happen. She'd envision herself happy. She hadn't felt happy in so long, she forgot what it actually felt like. The bells rings and she makes her way to class. Her day has officially begun.

Getting through her first class was always the most challenging, but after that, she knew she could get through the rest of the day. Lunch soon rolled around, and the blonde, once again, did not bother eating. She was never really hungry, and spent most of her time drawing instead. Typical Maya.

Today felt slightly odd, but she didn't know why. She couldn't put her finger on it. The blonde had decided on drawing a bird today. She studied the birds' wings. It was different shades of blue, white, and gray. The natural light made its feathers stand out even more. However, a shadow figure suddenly appeared, and startled the bird. Maya kept quiet, and didn't bother looking up. She thought that by doing this it would make them go away, until the person finally broke the silence between them.

"Maya, is that you?"

She'd recognize that voice anywhere.

"It couldn't be her, right?" she asked herself.
