It's three in the morning, and Maya awoke to the most uncomfortable stomach pains. The blonde was too caught up in her own emotions that she completely forgot she hadn't had a meal in almost two days now. She quickly got up and made her way to the kitchen. Maya tends to do this quite often. She becomes too upset, loses her appetite, and doesn't eat. It's not that she doesn't want to eat, but sometimes she just simply cannot.
As she finishes skimming through her pantry, she decides on having a bowl of cereal. Due to her height, Maya climbs on the shelfs to reach the box of Froot Loops; her favorite. After a few minutes of struggling, she finally is able to reach them.
After pouring and enjoying herself a bowl of cereal, Maya makes her way back to her room. She sits on her bed, fully awake, unable to fall back asleep. She quickly rushes to the corner by her window in search for her sketchbook. Maya did what she does best in these sorts of situations; draw.
With the natural light from the moon coming in through her window, Maya starts sketching away. She doesn't particularly have anything in mind on drawing, but simply just goes with what comes to her. As time passed, sleep finally got the best of Maya. She laid down on the floor, too tired to make it to her bed.
"Maya, honey, wake up! You're going to be late for school," Katy, Mays's mother, says to her, trying to wake her up.
"What?" Maya asks half asleep, and confused.
"It's 6:50, you have to catch the train in less than twenty minutes," her mom says. "Come on now, get up!" Katy says, patting Maya's bum, signaling for her to get ready.
Maya quickly gets up and gets ready for the day. Her very long, and dreadful day. She gets ready within seven minutes, kisses her mom goodbye, and runs to the subway station.
As soon as she arrives to school, she makes her way over to the nearest bench. Instead of drawing like she usually does, Maya decides to listen to music to make time pass. Once the bell rings, Maya sighs and makes her way to class.
As she sitting at her desk, writing away, the class is soon interrupted by a knock at the door. Everyone looks up to see who it is, and it just so happened to be none other than Riley Matthews.
Maya immediately became nervous. Out all the other English classes at her school, Riley had to be in hers? Maya's English teacher and Riley were talking, but couldn't quite hear what they were saying, until her teacher spoke louder, "Riley, why don't you have a seat by Sarah. Sarah, please raise your hand," their English teacher said to them.
Sarah raised her hand. Unfortunately for Maya, Sarah sat right in front on her. As soon as Riley looked over, her eyes instantly landed on the blonde. Riley sent her a weak smile, causing a lump to grow in Mays's throat. The girls kept eye contact for a while, until Maya looked back down at her paper, not wanting to look up at the girl anymore.
Riley made her way to her seat. She once again looked back at the blonde, hoping, and wishing she'd speak to her. Maya could feel Riley's eyes on her, but decided against looking up at her. She couldn't.
Time could not have gone by slower. Maya was practically jumping out of her seat to get out of class. As soon as the bell rang, Maya made her best efforts to get out of there as soon as possible. While she was trying to get out, Riley took this as an opportunity and grabbed a hold of Mays's hand softly. Maya would be lying if she said she didn't like the way her hand felt in Riley's, but of course, she could never admit that.
"Maya," Riley said softly. Before she could finish what she was going to say, Maya let go of her hand, and walked out the door. Sighing in sadness and frustration, Riley gathered her things and watched the girl walk out the door.
