Neil Gaiman author of American Gods and Tori Amos have been friends for years. Both have admitted in their interviews that they steal from each other shamelessly. It's not always easy to point out the common elements of their work but when it comes to "American Gods" the TV series it's easier to point them out and possibly take a second look at all those things that you believed that you knew for sure.
I didn't add any personnal comments on the video so that I wouldn't spoil the plot line for those who haven't watched American Gods and not mess with the song in case you are familiar with Neil's work but you don't have any idea about Tori.

At Spark Video there has been an accident. A man is dead and tori is on the ground with a blindfold before her eyes and her hands tied up. Another man is looking at them. A man without his cuflink with its special symbol. A hawk is watching them and then flies away. In American Gods, Laura dies after a car accident and her lover dies on the spot as well. A Leprachaun, Mad Sweeney caused the accident, watched it along with a Raven, Odin's bird and messenger that flies away to give Odin the news of their deaths. The Leprachaun keeps following Laura because she has his magic coin that brought her back to life and he cahave it back only if she decides to give it back.

At the end of Spark video Tori meets 2 men that look like angels that leave her on the road alone and move on. As she commented in the past she wanted viewers to question whether what we think of as angels/helpers are good ones and whether it's a good think taking their help or not. On American Gods we have a different version of the same scene. Laura is in the car, trying to meet her own "Spark" aka Shadow Moon who seems to "spark" only in her eyes " are you sure where my spark is? here.. here.. here." (People keep asking her if she know how to find him every time she loses track on him and she answers "yes, i can see him, meaning him sparkling.) The 2 men stop the car and make her follow them. They attach her hand (untie the bond from tori's version) and one of them is Annubis, God of Death, who has given him some extra time because of the coin to make things right (as she thinks of) before he takes her back to her own private hell because she didn't realise (the blindfold) what she had in front of her (Shadow Moon and her life with him) and only after she died her blindfold vanished and she saw things for what they have been all along. So Annubis is giving her a little help but in the end she's going to hell and that brings us back to Tori's question whether help from above is a real help or not.

Laura is trying to kill herself by drawing in a small pool, deprived of air, and intoxicating herself with bug's spray, yet she can't do it and takes a deep breath of fresh air coming up to life similar to the way that tori instead of drowning, once the blindfold has fallen from her eyes and goes up for a breath of fresh air and getting out of the river. People keep following her, like Laura is being followed every step of her way by odin's raven and the Leprachaun.

Spark was written after a Tori's miscarriage, so it talks about death among other things, dealing with it and trying to move on. (It works on many levels though and Tori herself has told more than once that she doesn't like explaining her songs because every listener's interpretation of the meaning is equal true and meaningfull as her own. (Yet there is a video of hers explaining the symbols of Spark ). Laura dies on an accident so her story evolves about death as well and she knows that she is oblidged to move on yet she insists on geting a second chance in order to apologize for her mistakes, express her love to Shadow Moon/Her own spark, and then accept her fate and pay for her sins.

"If Devine's masterplan is perfection, maybe next time I 'll give Judas a try." Laura has been far from perfect and had done many things the wrong way. Once she dies even though she doesn't seem to be religious, Annubis shows up to her instead of Jesus, giving her a second chance, fixing her decaying body and she comes back to life with a help of "judas", both dead and alive at the same time to get one more try. She trusts her soul to the icecream's assasin. The Leprachaun who assasinated her at the first place, owns the magic coin that took her out of the grave and she travels with him.

In Spark video a cigarrete that is still burning combined with the leaking petrol leads the car to explode. Trivia. Laura was found dead with her lover's cock in her mouth and that resulted in turning her relationship with Shadow Moon into ashes since the accident proved that she wasn't the woman he thought she was.

Enjoy :)
