My name is Summer Dartfield. I'm from the SilverMoon pack, the daughter of the pack doctor and the omega. Not a bad position to be in.
I always dreamt of finding true love. As a little girl I was comforted that the Moon Goddess gave us all mates, the perfect match. I always imagined he would be everything I ever wanted.
I was wrong.
He was so much more.
I met him at a party the alpha threw. He was kind to those who hadn't found their mate yet, and threw a mixer that invited other mateless people from other packs. Rather, I met him outside of the party.
I went to get a breath of air. It was rather stuffy in there, all those dressed up girls and guys sniffing around for the one. They were all wearing tuxes and prom dresses. Who were they trying to impress? If their mate was a good one, they wouldn't care how they looked. You meet your mate and they reject you, or you find true love.
Oh crap! What if I was rejected? I thought to myself. Rejection was said to be painful. People got over it, but when you first severed the bond, it was like being burned alive. Luckily, it was rare to happen.
But on the off chance..... I yelled at myself. No! You'll be fine Summer! While I debated my thoughts, I realized something smelled amazing. I lifted my nose. It was all the scents I never realized that I craved. A rainstorm, jasmine, some kind of wood, sun warmed earth, it felt like I was breathing in sheer ecstasy. I stumbled from the balcony down the stairs to the little cement courtyard.
A voice awoke in my head. Mate? It whispered in my head. From out behind a willow tree, he stepped out.
He stood about 5,9 and was so beautiful it hurt. His eyes shone as deep pools of indigo.
I ran to him, and fell into his arms. He nuzzled his face into my chestnut locks.
"Mate." He said securely.
And oh, his voice, his voice.
I was a dry river bed, drinking up his words, a child at first snow, he was my moon at stars, my whole damn universe, and I knew nothing about him.
We danced the night away, to our own music. My emerald green dress flowed around my ankles, but it's deep green might as well have been a drab beige compared to his eyes.
As we danced, we spoke in short sentences.
"I'm Summer."
"Suits you."
"Liam."
"Dartfield."
"Greyden"
"Omega's daughter."
"Alpha's kid."
"What?"
"RiverMoon"
"SilverMoon"
"Come with me"
"Anywhere."
Liam took my hand and pulled me through the gardens. We reached the forest. We reached a tree. We climbed. We reached the stars.
It was twilight now, the sky a dark blue dotted with light.
Mate is amazing! We like mate! My wolf chittered excitedly. Liam I thought to myself. Liam is amazing! My wolf continued.
Liam leaned in close. I shifted my gaze from the sky to him. We were almost nose to nose, when he whispered,
"I accept you, Summer Dartfield as my mate."
"I accept you, Liam Greyden as my-"
He pressed his lips against mine. I exploded with bliss.
"Mate."
I finished. I heard a yell. "Where's Summer?!"
I looked from my mate to the sound of my mother's voice.
"Go." Liam said sadly.
"Come meet my parents."
"I can't."
And with that, my mate disappeared. And I never saw him again for two years.
