Chapter 04 | | Hungover and Drug Free | | Archer

I don't remember how long I stayed outside with Steven in the frigid weather. It was December after all, but I don't think either of us really cared. I just wanted to get away from the party, and I was pretty sure Steven wanted to get away too. Even though he was on medication, sometimes his anxiety got the better of him, especially in crowded places. When he left for college in the fall, I wasn't exactly sure how he was going to handle the crowds.

After our own little party in the backyard, we decided it was best to try and find Analeigh and Brooklyn. The two girls were probably drunk out of their mind and doing who knows what, at least that was Steven's assumption. He was starting to act like a protective big brother, and I kind of found it funny. I mean, Analeigh and Steven rarely ever acted like proper siblings. Analeigh stayed in her circle, and Steven had his. The only time they ever crossed, according to Analeigh, was during baseball season or parties. During baseball season, Analeigh was the score keeper and Steven was on the team. Of course they were going to see a lot of each other then. As for parties, well, Steven was the one that kept Analeigh from doing anything too stupid.

"Brooklyn!" I called through the crowd, searching for my multicolored haired friend. Yes, Brooklyn had two different colored hair, but I usually only said she had blonde hair since it was her natural color. But, Analeigh said when Brooklyn turned thirteen, she dyed the bottom half of her hair black. So, now, it was blonde at the top and then slowly darkened until it was black. It was weird and cool at the same time, so it shouldn't be that hard to find her.

"Come on, Brooklyn," I muttered under my breath, "where in the world are you?" I pushed against the crowd, trying to get over the stink of beer and drugs. Why again did I agree to go? Oh, yeah, I needed to forget about her.

I finally did find Brooklyn in a very odd place. She was sitting in a bathtub with a bottle of beer in one hand and her shoes in the other. She looked like she was about to pass out at any moment, and I knew I needed to get her out of there before she did. There was no way I was going to be able to carry her down a flight of stairs and so many feet to Steven's car wherever it was parked if she was passed out.

"Let's go, Brooklyn," I told her, and she groaned, clutching her head.

"Stop being so loud, Arc," she said before clumsily getting out of the bathtub. She tried to put her heels back on but failed miserable. I rolled my eyes.

"Brooklyn, drop the beer and walk in your bare feet."

"I said to stop being so loud," she muttered, walking past me. She only hit the wall twice before she finally made it out the door. She still had the beer bottle in her hand, might I add.

I followed her down the stairs, watching her to make sure she didn't do anything stupid, while my eyes searched for Steven. I wasn't sure how he planned to get a wasted Brooklyn and Analeigh past Mark and Ana, but I guessed we would figure it out. Steven was pretty smart after all.

I tried to hold back a laugh when Brooklyn finally stumbled upon Steven and Analeigh, literally. She almost hit Analeigh in the eye with her heel and almost knocked over Steven, who looked very shocked. He was trying to hold Analeigh on his back, I realized, seeing the girl's arms around his neck.

"Is she out?" I asked him, trying not to laugh. Steven sent me a playful glare, hoisting his sibling up so he would be more comfortable. Next to me, Brooklyn started to ramble about how she missed Zach and wanted him back desperately. She also said something about doing a terrible thing with Jeremy, which caused both Steven and me to widen our eyes. If Brooklyn did what she was implying, her relationship with Zach might be over.
