"Beauty and the devil are the same"Tonight, I saw the Mapplethorpe documentary and I have contrasting opinions on his art and him as an artist. Not that my thoughts matter, but I admire his courage to break down walls and the dogmas of art. He ignored morality to cater to what he was more interested in, his art and the beauty his Polaroid lens captured. Aside from the images he took, he cared a lot about his image. He wanted to be big. Bigger than Warhol. Bigger than anything. A real star is nonstop. He was nonstop. His life ended precociously, but that's what it costs to be big, I guess.
