BEEP BEEP BEEP

I groan as I hear my alarm going off, rolling over on the bed to press snooze on my phone. Just 8 more minutes and then I'll wake up, but those 8 minutes rush by, my alarm going off once again. I sigh as I sit up on my bed, rubbing my eyes of sleep. I look around my room for a couple of minutes, oh how I really dread starting this new school. After a few more minutes of staring at the wall, I get up from the bed and make my way to the bathroom to shower.

I turn the shower on, feeling the water to make sure it's hot enough. I love to feel my skin boiling up under the water. It's not a shower unless you have steam up on the mirror. As soon as it's the right temperature, I hurry up and go to my room to get my underwear and my bonnet to tie on my hair. I had just gotten my hair blowed out and I wasn't about to let the steam fuck it up. The heat from this San Fran weather wasn't helping either, though.

I stand outside, waiting for the bus. I know, 17 without a car...poor me. It's not that I don't want a car or my license, because I really do, it's just we didn't have the money for me a car right now. My mom just brought a house but with the job she has, maybe I can get one soon. I put my earphones in my ear and start playing Brent Faiyaz, my favorite singer next to Frank Ocean, my number one favorite singer. I wish he would go on tour, my poor heart hurts because I probably will never meet him.

I look up to see the bus in front of me. I get on, looking for an empty seat to sit in. I see one towards the back of the bus, making my way towards it to sit down. I sit down, looking out the window as we drive away. I wonder how this day is going to go. I turn my volume up and close my eyes as I just listen to the voice of Brent.

Arriving at school, the first word that pops into my head is BIG. This school is huge. Like two times bigger than my old school back in Detroit. I get off the bus, heading into the building while putting my phone into my back pocket.

Okay, first things first, I need to go to the office to get my schedule and find out where my classes are. As I make my way to the office, I look around at all the people there. So many lockers line the hallways as people stand in front of them, just talking. I felt like the hallway was so tight, all of the teens either walking or standing talking to someone. I finally made my way to the office, going into the principal's office.

"Okay, you have a great day." She says as she gets off the phone, hanging it up. She looks up at me and smiles," Hi, Dana. Welcome to Abraham Lincoln High! I'm so happy you're here! How are you liking it so far?"

I smile back at her, already liking her,"It's really big." She laughs, getting up from her chair to get a folder from one of her seven shelves. "It is big, also a very nice place. I think you'll like it here. I have your schedule right here," She says, handing it to me. I look down at my classes as she still talks.

"If you just wait a few minutes, I have a student who's supposed to come in here and help be your school guide for today and tomorrow, he can show you to your classes and just around in general. We value our students here." She smiles to me, sitting back down in her seat. I nod my head, reading my schedule over again. A couple minutes go by and I hear a knock on the door.

"Mrs. Tillman?" I look up to see a boy with long wavy blonde hair. Mrs. Tillman smiles at him, telling him to come in.

"Austin! Thanks so much for agreeing to do this. This is our new student, Dana. I expect you to show her around and help her in anyway she can these first two days." Mrs. Tillman says. Austin nods, smiling down at me.

"Well, come on."
