"Ugh. I cannot believe that just happened." I said, covering my face with my hands.

"It's OK, Becky," I inwardly groaned at his nickname for me. "Don't worry about it. At least you don't have to go back to school tomorrow." At least I have that to be thankful for, right?

After the nurse had called my dad and told him that she couldn't find a reason for my sudden unconsciousness, he rushed over to school and picked me up, both of us thinking the same thing.

"Stupid mermaid side affects." I mumbled. "Why isn't mom here? she told me that she'd come back and help me. She promised me!"

"Rebecca, you know that if she could be here, she would be. There must be something big down there that she has to take care of. She wouldn't go against her word if she didn't have to. She's a good person."

"Really?" I asked, anger bubbling up inside of me like a neglected pot if spaghetti. "Because I thought that a family stuck together. That every once in a while, children got to see their mother. Or that a wife occasionally showed her husband her face." I know that I shouldn't have said those things, but I couldn't help it. Eventually, it was going to come out, and I guess it wanted out now.

"Rebecca, stop!" you know she loves us!"

And that's pretty much how the rest if the car ride went; Dad defending Mom, while I stared angrily out the window, and then me shouting responses while he gripped the steering wheel so tight, that his knuckles began to turn white.

Such a happy family.
