Tanya Stevens sat quietly on the furthest right of the taxi, which appeared a little odd because apart from the driver, she had the taxi all to herself. Her parents had hired it specially for her because today was her big day, and since they couldn't drive her themselves (due to work commitments) they had to make sure she didn't take the bus. The bus according to her mother's imagination had an unbecoming push and shove of passengers that could ruin her makeup, or crease her outfit, or fizzle up her neat hair and ultimately ruin her day..
So Tanya sat quietly, on the outside, but inside her head were hundred of voices, similar to sport fans in a stadium, they were all screaming different things at the same time and never tiring.
She let out a sigh and looked out the window, to see that they had left the busy city center street and were now entering more quieter streets decorated with flowering trees.
The taxi driver looked at her questioningly and said, "13th sigh in the past 5 minutes, but who's counting? "
A laugh escaped Tanya's lips and the voices in her head dulled down, "big day today" she said.
"Care to share," asked the taxi driver, there was a pause before she answered so he said "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to pry"
"No, no" Tanya smiled, "thank you for asking, I could use company, I'm going for an internship interview you see, and I'm so nervous"
"Oh so that's why we are driving to Eden Holdings? Big company that one. What are you studying?"
Tanya smiled to herself, usually she never liked giving details to strangers but this taxi driver seemed nice and chatty. So for the rest of the journey she told him she was studying for an honors degree in accounting and finance, and explained how getting the internship would boost her profile academically, professionally and financially.
The taxi driver was really good with pep talk and kept encouraging her, telling her she would ace the interview, which worked well in boosting her confidence - exactly what she needed.
Finally they reached Eden Holdings, she dropped off and found her way to the reception. The receptionist found her name on the list and led her to the interviewing room.
Tanya found herself looking at a man and a woman who looked as old as her parents and they were smiling broadly at her, so she smiled back. The third interviewer was a stern younger looking man, Tanya smiled at him too regardless of his sourness.
She took the seat that was offered, squared her shoulders, held her head upright and confidence oozed from every part of her.
The senior pair introduced themselves as Petronella Thomson the human resources officer, Derick Bright the credit controller and lemon face introduced himself as Keith Veld the stock controller.
20 minutes and a grilling interview later, Tanya left the interview and found the taxi still waiting for her, to take her back home.
"How did it go?", the taxi driver asked as he opened the door for her.
Tanya gave her first grin of the day, "it wasn't easy, but I have a really good feeling about this one"

Back in the interview room, after Tanya left, Derick Bright clapped his hands in delight and exclaimed, "now I understand what it means to save the best for the last"

Petronella Thomson agreed, "she really was a breath of fresh air from the 16 we have interviewed in the last two days"

"I'm impressed too", chipped in Keith Veld, "l intentionally was hard on her, but she didn't break a sweat, remained composed. She'll work well with Mr O."

"True" the other two chorused.

"So we are taking Miss Tanya Stevens and Mr Jeremy Finn, from yesterday, yes?", said Derick getting up.

"Yes" affirmed Petronella, " l'll have the secretary call them the day after tomorrow."

As Tanya relaxed on her bed ready for sleep, she recalled the events of the day, most especially the interview. She remembered seeing the admiration in the eyes of the interviewers grow as she answered question after question.
Undoubtedly the internship was hers, she told herself. From now on it would be clear skies and warm sunshine.
