Life after suicide.

Before they knew it, 10 minutes was up and it was time to go their boss' office. Jeremy led the way as he was nervous but definitely not as nervous as Tanya who looked as distraught as a trauma victim.

Oswald Cooper had them enter and offered them seats. For a moment the interns forgot their nervousness as they took in the size and beauty of the room in awe.
It was an executive office in the fullest sense, big corner window that had a good view of outside, big polished mahogany and leather chairs and table, matching cabinets, at the far end a refrigerator, two couches and an exquisite glass coffee table.
Even the wall to wall floor carpet in this office felt somewhat fluffier and softer than the one in their office.

There was also another door which Tanya thought could lead either to a not so secret exit or a bathroom, either way she made a mental note to investigate what lay behind that door as soon as she had the chance.

Everything about the office was professional and immaculate, fine details at every corner, clear that whoever designed it was intentional on giving the room a lasting impression of power and wealth.

Jeremy looked at his boss in a new light of admiration but even more bewildered, did he say he was the FD? But how? He looked young, the FD's assistant perhaps?

Oswald had to clear his throat twice in order to jerk the interns back into the real life. He smiled to himself remembering the first time he had entered this office as a graduate trainee, he had never imagined one day it would be his. But because of his hard-work, character and efficiency, when the previous Financial Director resigned, the Board felt that he was the most deserving employee to fill in the gap.

And now there was Miss Tanya Stevens, Oswald frowned, was this a trap or test? He would have to be careful.

"Right, if you have no other questions these are your training programs," Oswald said, handing the students a set of documents, "basically they guide you on the key skills you should learn and acquire while at different sections of the department."

"I have a question.." interjected Jeremy, "during our induction, the facilitator was so fast l didn't quite master were each department and section is found"

"Okay pen it down for later use" Oswald replied, "7th floor, which is the one we are on, is for all executives, all the directors' offices are here.
6th floor has all the department managers' offices, 5th floor is the accounts and finance departments were you will find all the different sections of your training program. 4th floor is Human Resources, 3rd floor is marketing, 2nd floor is customer care and 1st floor is where you find the biggest boardroom, the main kitchen, reception/sitting area and interview rooms"

"Okay, got it"

Oswald smiled, "sure, don't get lost"

"I have a question too" said Tanya

Oswald's facial expression immediately changed.

Tanya swallowed, "ehh, what time do we come in and leave? The contract only said 48hrs a week"

"Good question," Oswald replied, "8am-430pm, weekdays, of course depending on the section you are at you may be required to come in earlier or knock of later or weekends, is that going to be a problem Miss Stevens?"

"No sir"

"Good because had it been, I would have recommended you find another company"
Tanya's eyes widened and her heart missed a beat. Shots had been fired. Her boss clearly did not want her here.

This was going to be the longest  6 months internship of her life.

"Apart from working in the different sections, you are also going to be working as my personal assistants, which is why you were given the front office to my office as your work station. Duties include setting up my appointments and making sure they don't clash, answering phone calls and connecting the relevant ones to my office as well as other duties l give you. Hence, its of paramount importance that you learn fast so l can assign you relevant tasks"

The interns said they understood and were dismissed.

When they got to their office Tanya threw herself onto a chair, leaned over the desk folded her arms on top and rested her head. "This is great" Tanya moaned in her head, "my boss hates me and l have to work closely with him, can it get any worse than that?"
Just then the door to Oswald's office opened and he stepped out.

Tanya's body jerked and she sat upright, "Miss Stevens are you alright?" Oswald inquired, "yes I am sir" she replied.

"Then I will not appreciate you sleeping here, anyone can walk in, and being found asleep would paint a bad picture on me, yourself and above all else, it's unprofessional."
"Yes sir, I'm sorry it won't happen ag-" but Oswald had already left the office and far from earshot.

Jeremy looked at Tanya and shook his head in pity, "do you take drugs? I have a contact, he can hook you up a dose. They say when you high you ain't got no worry"
Tanya shot him a deathly stare and he cringed and quickly withdrew his statement.

The rest of the day proceeded uneventfully, the interns sat on their desk answering phones and taking messages for their boss. Tanya was also chatting with her best friend Chelsea via texts. She had just finished telling her of that mornings horrendous events.

C: hahaha omg I feel for you, where was your fellow intern when all this was happening?

T: he was there as a silent spectator ugh and then he offered me drugs to help soothe my troubles

C: lol he did? Funny guy, I like him 😂

T: not funny 😶

C: hahaha is too. But forget the drugs, I have a better idea. You need a boyfriend.

T: seriously? You have got to be kidding me.

C: no seriously think about it, if your boss is going to give you grief all day at work, then you'll need someone who'll tell you sweet nothings at the end of the day and make you feel special and good about yourself.

T: sounds so nice when you put it like that. But where will l find this soothing man? 🤷‍♀️

C: 🤦‍♀️ oh by the way you've been single for so long, what's it been, 3, 4 years?

T: 2 and a half actually

C: Patrick says there's this new totally cool dating network you could consider joining. I'll forward you the link.

T: who's Patrick?

C: the guy who's my fellow intern at work.

T: really? You've been discussing me with a stranger you barely know and now are referring me to his social networks.

C: never mind that, check out the link it's legit, and who knows, maybe that's were your prince in shining armor is waiting.

T: 🤦‍♀️

Tanya contemplated once or twice before she decided she had nothing to lose, so she followed the link given to her.
