Chapter 2: Hungry and Remembering

I open the door to my class. Our school is old, but stable unlike the ancient boarding house. But, compared to the richer side of the sector, we are pretty poor. They have amazing houses over there, but that would be an understatement,  they have amazing mansions. They just have it good since they work on a bigger scale, hovercrafts, and big projects like that.

As I enter the quiet classroom,  all my classmates look up from their textbooks and I can feel their insistent eyes on me.

I take a seat next to my best friend, Stream. He's smiling at me, I stick my tongue out at his dorky face.

"Why are you so late, Lida?", he protests behind his whisper.

"Just shut up okay?", I tell him, forcing him to turn his attention back to the history textbook. I smile.

During lunch, Stream, Aubri, Drew, and I are all hanging out. Aubri and Stream are pretty much talking to each other instead of the entire group. This has been going on a few weeks now.

Drew and I always end up just making faces and talking about school projects and whatsoever.  Drew is quiet, but nice. He keeps to himself most of the time though.  Aubri is graceful, but social. I consider her like a little sister, since she is the youngest of us. She's in 11th grade and we're in 12th.

But most recently, her and Stream have been flirty around each other. Drew turns to me.

" I wonder when they'll ever stop", he's says taking a sip from his soda.

"Whenever one of them realizes just how much more annoying they would be together", I say grinning.

I actually don't mind the idea of Stream and Aubri together, it's just that Stream is  sort of a player when it comes to girls. So if I were Aubri I wouldn't become to attached to him. I remember the first time I met him, he was telling me how my eyes shined brighter than the stars.

"Just to let you know, I'd rather die than be with you", I said to him.

A look of failure came across his face. I guess I really was the first girl to reject him like that. He just kinda backed away, well, until the next week.

"Maybe we can be friends?", he said with a look that showed me how sorry he was.

"Yeah just don't bat those hazel eyes at me, seriously you're blinding me into only seeing dirt now", I grinned at him.

"Guess I'll just have to get used to staring at the ocean now"

That was the first month of 9th grade. We got moved to the upper campus of our secondary school. Here in the sector you start out at primary school for grades 1 through 6, and then the rest at second school. He was the first guy who had ever tried flirting with me.

Most of the times, guys never paid attention to me. I mean people consider me to be pretty,  but I'm too awkward to be around guys much.

Guys mostly pay attention to Aubri, she has golden blonde hair and big clear blue eyes that are so blue and clear, you could see the sky in them. She came from the richer side of the sector,  so she's very sophisticated most of the time.

The bell rings and both Aubri and i walk to our next class, Flight Engineering. Aubri was put in the class because of her father who is a flightcraft designer.

I got put in the class, because this is the only course I have left in the transport sector essential courses. Unless you want to take the Space course, but you'd have to get invited to it.

The rest of the day goes by in a blur, and the next thing I know I'm walking home with Stream.

"So what are you thinking about", he asks, kicking a rock.

"You and Aubri", I say playfully.

"No you're not!", he exclaims, red filling his checks.

"Yeah, I was just thinking of how your children will end up looking like", I tell him.

"Shut up!", he says pushing me slightly.

"It's okay, I know you like her, I don't mind at all", I tell him sincerely.

"Good, cuz I actually do", he says looking towards the tall building in front of us.

"But, let me say one thing", I say as I lean into him.

"Don't break her heart", I whisper.

"I won't ever", he responds.

"Good, she's too amazing for a tick like you", I say waving goodbye.

"Goodbye, Miss Ocean", he calls out.

"Goodbye, Dirt eyes",  I say to him.

I make my way into the doors of the boarding house.

Then, all is still and the good humor that was just in me vanishes. I watch as everyone stares at me and gives me the terrifying news.
