Brooklyn's POV

I sat in the tree with my bow in my hand, waiting for a creature to come scurrying by. I wasn't looking for a meal to take back this time, I was just hunting for fun. I needed to clear my mind and I knew that only the woods could do that. For some reason though, it wasn't working, I heard leaves shuffling and held up my bow, getting ready to release the arrow. As soon as it came out of the bushes I let go of the arrow, It went straight through the rabbits chest. I laughed at my catch. I wasn't sure why I was laughing, nothing was funny. Maybe it was just that I didn't know what else to do. The only people left in my family was my sister and I. She was completely dependent on me. I brought in the food, I brought in the money, and it has been that was since I was 14. That was the way things were and I couldn't do anything about it. I loved my sister with all of my heart and she deserved a better life.

I hoped down from my tree and went to retrieve the rabbit. I picked it up and placed it in my bag I was wearing on my shoulder. I wasn't ready to go back to the same house that holds the memories of my lost family. I just went back up to my tree and started waiting again. When the leaves were shuffling this time it sounded like foot steps. The people around these woods were crazy and would kill you in the blink of an eye. No one would want to live anywhere near them but the house was cheap and it was all we could afford.Anything was better than living in the streets.

Right as I saw a branch move, signifying that they would appear any minute, I held up my bow. I inhaled as I saw a brown haired girl at the age of 14 emerge... My sister. I mumbled a few profanities under my breath. I pointed my weapon down. "If you had appeared a second later you would be dead. Be more careful Izzie." She laughed slightly. Isabelle was a carefree person. She laughes all the time and makes the best in every situation. I wish I could say the same. We were complete opposite and I have no clue how we are even from the same family.

"Who pissed in your cornflakes this morning?" I scowled as I jumped down from my tree. "Stop being an asshole. You don't supply every need for the two of us now do you?" She stopped smiling and looked down, ashamed. She shook her head. That's what I thought.

She was about to start talking about something else when I placed my hand over her mouth, telling her to shut up. I thought that I had heard leaves being crunched. After a few seconds I slowly took my hand off of Isabelle's mouth. "Wh-" Someone came up behind her and covered her mouth, picking her up. I started to help her when someone did the same to me. I bit the guys hand, stomped his foot, and elbowed him at the same time. He let me go and I spun around and kicked him in the balls. He stumbled over. I turned to Isabelle, who was kicking and screaming. I got my bow ready and held it up, aiming at the man's arm. I let the arrow go and everything seemed to be happening in slow motion as the arrow missed his arm and went right beside Isabelle's head and pierced his heart. Blood came spilling out of his mouth as he fell to the ground. The man that had attacked me looked at the guy and then me. He scrunched his eyebrows and came charging at me. Tears formed in my eyes as I lifted up my bow, releasing my arrow. It hit him in the chest.

I just killed a man.

No wait 2 men.

I was a murderer. I killed two living, breathing people. Well they aren't breathing now.

I looked at Isabelle, sobbing on the ground with blood in her hair and on her back. I sat down beside her, pulling her close to my chest. I let my tears silently roll down my cheek. This was what the world was now. It was corrupted and harsh to people like Izzie and me. People who really have no chance of making it out. We were born into it the same way people are born into riches and fame. We cannot change our past, but right now, as I'm glancing down at my sister, I'm sure as hell that I'm going to change the future.
