Lauren was used to this by now. Every two weeks a new test gerbil would come and then go. She never grew attached to the kids her father brought in. She knew. She knew that they wouldn't last two weeks. And there was nothing she could do about it.

Her father, an ex-scientist, has been trying to come up with a way to give humans robotic abilities. In a way, turn a human into a robot with a beating heart. This has been going on for the past two years. Since then he has not only gone insane, but won't come to realize that he will never be able to accomplish the impossible.

Lauren would do anything to leave, but she would never make it in the real world. For example, she's hasn't been out of the house in two years, has not seen the sun's rays, has not seen another human being other than her dad, and can't speak.

She tried to leave once with high hopes of escaping. But, her father wouldn't allow it.

I grab the money out of the jar in our safe, a spare change of clothes, some food, and stuff it all in my back pack. I'm getting out of here, and I'm getting out of here tonight. My fucking psycho dad just killed a teenager from my school in his lab, and I'm not going to wait around to see what happens next.

I'm almost to the door when I hear his voice ring throughout the house. "Lauren. Lauuuren. C'mon sweetie, I'm not going to hurt you. Well, that is if you cooperate," he snickers evilly, his voice getting closer and closer.

I sling the bag onto my shoulder and slip out the door as quietly as I can. I look up and down street to see nothing but pitch black except for a light at the end of the street. An eerie silence settles over me, and I start feeling queasy. I hear loud footsteps just on the other side of the door. It's now or never. I sprint towards the light at the end of the street, but I hear footsteps behind me slowly gaining on me.

I feel a touch on my right arm and begin to let out a scream which is masked by another hand over my mouth. Why does this have to happen to me? What did I do to deserve this.

My father pulls me closer to him, until he's got one hand over my mouth and one wrapped around my body. I'm finished. It's over.

"Lauren, darling. I told you to cooperate, but you didn't. So now you get to pay the consequences you stupid bitch," he snaps in my ear and I can smell the alcohol in his breath. He's drunk too, this is fantastic. My body starts to quiver and I go into panick mode. I do the only thing I can do.

I bite down on his hand, hard, and he cries out in pain. I seem to be frozen because I can't move, I just watch the red blood trickle down my dad's arm.

"Stay away from me you fucking psychopath!" I scream and back away from him slowly.

He smiles evilily, some of the blood smeared on the corner of his mouth. "You're going to regret that smart mouth of your's Lauren. Especially after what I'm about to do next." The last thing I remember is beging for another day.

Lauren remembers that day two years ago when she walks in to see the next poor, innocent soul. She almost can't believe her eyes. In front of her is Camila Cabello. She thinks she's going to faint, but she grabs the food tray tighter, and sets it down in front of Camila.

Then Camila starts talking, and Lauren jumps in her skin.

"Hi, hey. So, I know you aren't going to let me out of here, but may I ask why I'm here?" Lauren just looks at her, wishing she could reply, but she can't. And she'll never be able to.

"Are you going to answer me?" Lauren doesn't look at her while she removes the already messed with duct tape. She simply sets the tray of food onto her lap and walks to the other side of the room.

"Look you don't have to have a conversation with me about daisies and shit, I just want to know what I'm doing here," Camila raises her voice, clearly getting upset. A few tears slide down Lauren's cheek and Camila sees this and starts to feel bad.

"Hey. Hey, don't cry. I didn't mean to yell," she frowns and watches as the older silent girl shakes her head wiping more of the tears away. She also notices a scar going from her mouth to her ear. Something about this girl seems familiar to Camila, but she just can't figure out what, and it's bugging her.

"Do I know you?", Camila asks, eyeing Lauren with curiosity and Lauren bites her lip. She hesitates, but finally shakes her head no.

Lauren's POV:

If only she knew why I was crying. It isn't because my dad has been abusing me for the past two years, or that I've seen over a hundred people die before my very eyes, or that she yelled at me. I'm crying because I do know her, and she used to know me. But that was before the accident.

"Camila, slow down!", I laugh and look at the beautiful girl next to me. "Never! No ones even on this road anyways it's almost one in the morning!" she shouts over the wind gushing into the small convertable. I never did like Camila driving fast, but I trust her.

Up ahead is the one way tunnel, and tell her to slow down but she can't hear me over the wind. I reach out for her, but it's too late. The headlights of the truck see us, before we see them. And it is in those lights that I see, no not my life flash before my eyes, but the moments I'd spent. Spent with her and the moments that I won't.

I open my eyes to find myself on the floor, silently crying. She's next to me, rubbing my back and jump a little at her touch. She removes her hand, but I miss the feeling already. I miss her.

I'd completely forgotten about her since a year ago, and now she's back. And unless I do something, she's going to die.
