Camila's POV:
I'm really starting to worry now. I don't know how long I've been here, a girl is crying next to me, and I don't know why I'm here. I continue to rub the girls back, but she just cries even more. I know I yelled at her, but I didn't think she was that sensitive. For some reason this girl looks really familiar to me, and it's nagging my brain. I've never met her though which is even more confusing. This is all so confusing.
"Can I ask you something," I speak softly so she doesn't start crying again. She lifts her head to look at me, and I smile reassuringly. She wipes at her eyes with her hands and sniffles a little bit. God, she looks so cute. Wait what? What am I thinking?
"Hey, I know there's something you're not telling me. I know you said I don't know you but I feel like I should," I explain, ridding my previous thoughts about her. She looks very hesitant to answer me, and she looks down at her hands. Then finally she pulls a notepad out of her pocket and a pen. She starts writing something then scribbles it out. I look down to see she wrote 'it's complicated'.
Well, gee, thanks. That helps so much. She lowers her head and refuses to look at me. What is wrong with this girl. Do I know her or do I not? She's so confusing. I put my fingers under her chin and lift her head up so she's looking at me. I stare into her eyes, trying to figure something out. I notice the tears, the look of remembrance on her face. The look of sadness is so evident it almost hurts me.
She does know me. That's why she's so sad. If she knows me then why is she hiding it from me? More importantly, why don't I know her. This is all so confusing, and I feel like my head is a freight train going one hundred miles an hour. This train is about to crash.
"Look if you don't stop crying soon, I'm gonna start up too," I try to lighten the mood, and slightly succeed. She still looks like she's hiding something from me, and on top of that, she hasn't uttered a single word to me since we've met. She looks up to me with tender, broken eyes and I raise the corners of my lips.
"I know that you're hiding something from me, and I know it may not be easy for you to say, but right now I think we need to work to-" I begin to say but she cuts me off and drags me back to my seat in the chair. Bringing a finger to her lips, she silences me and re-wraps the tape around my hands and feet. She walks over to a corner of the room and just acts like she's been watching me this whole time.
Then suddenly I hear them, the footsteps. A man appears in the doorway, and I hold my breath. So this must be the guy who kidnapped me, it has to be. He studies me as he walks closer and closer, a sort of sinister smile on his face.
"Hello, Camila. How are you dear?", he says as if he knows me. I continue to look at him while he awaits my answer. Soon, he's standing right in front of me. He pulls something out of his ugly lab coat, and holds it in front of my face. I focus in on what it is and I hold my breath. My throat goes dry and I feel light headed.
"Let's try this again. How are you dear," he repeats in a voice so soothing it sickens me. I stare at the long, curved knife in front of me, and force the words to come out. "I'm fine," I say in a voice stronger than I expected and he lowers the sharp weapon.
"I know this is all a bit crazy, and you might have some questions you want answered. First, you will address me as Richard. Second, you are here because you, my dear, are going to be the key to human invincibility." He walks around to the back of the chair and puts a hand on my shoulder. I feel sick to his touch, and I tense where his flesh touches mine.
"Don't be so tense dear, relaxed muscles work best for the experiment," Richard laughs evily and walks over to a table with a cloth over it. "Underneath are various robotic parts designed to fit and function as the human body. In a few days we will begin expirimenting, but for now, make yourself at home," he smiles and I try to process what he just said.
