Chapter VI: The Chase

Hello Readers! It has been like erm.... 5 months? I'm really sorry but I started to attend a new school this year and well, it has been pretty hectic and I could barely find time for myself to relax. I apologize for the delays in update and also thank you for the 800+ reads and votes!! I appreciate that! Here's a new chapter (though it's short), enjoy!

Natsu Dragneel's POV

"Lucy!" I yelled as I watched one of the Rebellions carry Lucy over his shoulders. The enemies who once surrounded us began to disperse back into the woods. My legs started to move instinctively at the sight of Lucy's limp body. My heart was picking up its pace and I could feel something lodged in my throat. 

Anger was surging through me and even I had no idea why. 

I just don't want to see her get hurt again.

I thought unconsciously.

Wait,

Again?

What was I thinking? I shook off those thoughts quickly as I racked my brains on ways to retrieve Lucy without hurting her. Lucy's companions were pursuing them just as fiercely while one of them(I think she was called Aries?) stayed behind to tend to their fallen comrades. 

"Princess!" Leo shouted and I could hear the desperation and anger in his voice. I glanced at all of them quickly and they were all extremely worn out from the surprise attack. Though I have only known them for  short period, I could tell that they are a tight bunch. 

The road was getting bumpier as we ran deeper into the heart of the woods, more and more trees came into view and light was slowly being filtered into darkness as the leaves blocked the sunlight. It was getting more and more difficult to track the man who was manhandling Lucy. I lit a bomb at threw it to the closest Rebellion and used this chance to take a good look around my surroundings from the flames of the explosion.

"What the hell are you doing? Can't you see that the princess is being held hostage by one of those bastards? Don't go round throwing bombs as you please, if I see a single burn mark on the princess, you're just as dead as all of them." Scorpio looked at me dead in the eyes as we continued to run with his voice dripping with menace. 

Despite his harsh words, I tried to understand that he lost his temper due to the dire situation we are in. With that in mind, I calmed my fury and urge to retaliate, and opted for a more peaceful retreat, "I'm not dropping bombs randomly, I threw it at a Rebellion who wasn't carrying Lucy. Take this chance to look around the place, it's only going to get darker." I explained.

Realisation dawned on Scorpio at the point and he returned to his usual composure before uttering a soft "Sorry."

I nodded in response before focusing on our target again, only to see Capricorn and Leo chasing the whole troop in font of me. Leo turned behind to look at us for a quick second and spat, "Hurry the hell up and save your chit-chat after we save her!" He glared at me especially, as if this whole thing was my fault.

One of the Rebellions stopped in his tracks and faced us square on. He fished out his daggers and started to throw it at us. We dodged it with ease as Aquarius dropped from the trees, grabbed that man's head and twisted it with such force before stabbing him with once more with one of his daggers.

"Nice." Virgo commented.

The chase seemed to go on forever as we remained at a stalemate. We were all too exhausted to go on.  Just when it seemed to never end, a smokescreen was thrown at us suddenly and everything was white. 

"What the fu—" Just before Scorpio could complete his sentence, his groan of pain at the end was more prominent.

Panic arose and I turned my head frantically, "What's wrong? Are you okay? Where are you Scorpi— "

Suddenly, I could feel a  sharp pain on my neck causing me to fall due to impact. My conscious was slowly slipping due to that attack.

Shit.

Then, all was black.
