As I sit at one end of the meeting table, I observe the scene in front of me. My company's board members sit in their chairs respectfully, whilst the other company's CEO which has requested a meeting with me has not showed up yet.

His associates are waiting patiently for their boss at the table alongside us. This CEO who claims he can benefit my company, has shown to be nothing but a waste a time. And I don't waste time.

The clock ticks, and my board members fidget in their seats. Twenty minutes have gone by and I haven't heard from Leon, my secretary, that Mr. Themis has even stepped foot into my building.

I have another meeting in an hour for which I need to prepare for, and an irresponsible CEO will not put me behind my schedule just because he is. Collecting my papers from the mahogany table I stand up, and soon do my associates.

"Seeing as Mr. Themis has decided not to grace us with his presence today, this meeting is now canceled," I say curtly.

Turning towards the other company's associates, I continue, "Thank you for arriving on time, but unfortunately without your boss here, by company policy, we cannot execute the meeting. Next time, tell Mr. Themis to actually show up." With that, I swiftly exit the conference room and head towards my office.

As soon as I step foot onto the shag carpet laid on the floor of my office, I kick off my heels. Feels good to be free. Walking over to my desk I notice I have a message. Since it's already around 5 p.m. my secretary has left, but wrote me a note to inform me that my meeting at six, was canceled.

Thank fucking God, I don't think I could walk in these heels any longer without stabbing someone with them, or myself.

Packing up what I need, I head out the door of my office, heels in hand. Just as I lock the door behind me I feel my phone vibrating in my purse.

I fish it out quickly just to see my mother in the caller I.D. Great. Now I have to answer. As soon as I do, I hear whispering going back and forth. "Mom?"

"Oh honey, so glad you picked up. How was your day?"

"It was good, but tiring. Had one guy not even show up to our meeting."

"How unprofessional. Anyways, your father and I are having special guests over at our house tonight for you to meet and- "

"Mom it's almost six, couldn't you have told me before?"

"Let me finish. It was a last-minute arrangement, but meeting these special guests, or one in particular, will really help you- I mean your company. I just know it."

"Fine, fine. Who are- "

"Sorry honey, I have to help Linda in the kitchen! Be here at 8!" With that, I hear her hang up on me. I've socialized enough today, and I just want my bed. But when it comes to my mom, I can never say no.

As I walk up the long driveway to my parent's home, I see that there is an extra car to parked on it. An expensive car at that, all black and with a body so sleek and seamless it seems to be molded by melted butter.

Ringing the doorbell, I stand back and quickly look down to asses myself. My long, dark brown hair spills over my shoulders in soft curls I had done hastily. I have the least idea of who I am meeting, and I hate being unprepared, so I stuck with a simple black dress.

I had also forced my poor feet into a new pair of black pumps. I looked presentable but with my one coat of mascara and kohl liner framing my dark brown eyes, I felt a bit bland. That was nothing new.

As soon as the door opened I catch the faint scent of my mother's light rose perfume, that welcomes me more than anything. She just stands there with her hands clasped in front of her.
