I went to my room and fell asleep. I still couldn't stop thinking about when my mom passed away. I woke up and went downstairs for a glass of water and sat at the table
"Hey Crystal" Amy said walking into the kitchen
"Oh, Amy, hi, I didn't mean to wake you" I said
"Well, I could tell something was bothering you" she said
"I can't stop thinking about mom" I said with a sigh
"I know but you can't think about her forever" Amy said
"I know" I said
"But, if you want, we can go on a ride in the morning, just the two of us" she said with a smile
"Really?" I asked
"Yeah, we need some sister time" she said
"Okay, that would be awesome" I said
"Okay, get to bed" Amy said
"I might go check on the horses" I said putting my boots on
"Okay, just go right to bed when you come back in" Amy said
"Okay, I will" I said
I went out to the barn to see the horses, every horse looked fine but...Spartan was filthy so I took him out of his stall and brushed him down and put him back in his stall. I sighed in relief and went to Bear's stall. I checked on him and walked into the barn office and looked around and saw all the pictures of me, my mom and my sister Amy. I sighed and picked up a book I found. I read the book and sat down, it was about horse behavior and the parts of it. My guess it was left for me for a reason, I took one more look around and went back inside and sat back down and kept reading the book, I eventually went to bed for the night but woke up again. The night my mother died still haunted me because I was with Amy and my mom when we went to go rescue Spartan. I went back outside but sat on the bed in the loft of the 4 horse barn and went down to the office and sat down at the desk. I fell asleep at the desk but heard neighing from outside so I ran outside and saw a wild white mare, it was obvious she was about to give birth. I ran back inside to grab a halter and lead and slowly walked up to the mare with my hand out to see if she would let me pet her but she ran off when Jack came out of the house.
"Grandpa" I said
"Sorry, but Amy wants you to come to bed" Jack said
"Okay" I said and walked back into the barn and put the halter and lead rope back and went back inside
"Well, you were having a connection with a mare, a wild mare of that" Jack said as I walked back inside
"Yeah I guess" I said
I sat down at the table again with water. I looked at the book I found that I had left on the kitchen table then looked at my phone, I had gotten a text from Jake saying 'wanna meet up at Maggie's tomorrow? Lunch is on me, I'll buy you lunch' and I smiled and texted him back saying 'sure, what time should I meet you there?' And he texted back saying 'does 1pm work?' And I texted back 'sure, see you then' I put my phone down and went upstairs to bed and got up the next morning to Amy jumping on my bed like she did when we were kids
"Amy no" I said
"Come on, we have that morning ride, remember?" She asked
"I know but I'm meeting with Jake at Maggie's at 1pm" I said "what time is it?"
"It is 9:30am" she said
"Fine, just a quick ride" I said
"Okay" she said
We went to the barn to tack up Bear and Spartan, we rode through the woods on trails and I brought a halter and lead just in case I saw that mare again as we were riding along. In the corner of my eye I saw the mare again, I rode over but stopped and gave her space and I got off Bear and grabbed the halter from the saddle horn and slowly walked over to her when I heard neighing coming from the field, I got back on Bear and followed the mare and saw wild horses, it was amazing.
"Wow, gorgeous" I said to myself as I looked at the time which read 12pm "oh no, I should get back"
I galloped on Bear back to the barn and untacked him and put him in his stall and ran back to the house. I got on my best western outfit that I could find(which was just jeans, a tank top and a flannel or old show shirt) and I put my boots on and ran to my truck and drove to Maggie's and was there 15 minutes early looking at tack with my cowgirl hat on waiting for Jake. I saw him walk in and found a spot to sit and he sat with me
"Hey Crystal" he said
"Hi Jake" I said
"How are you?" He asked
"I'm good" I replied "how about you?"
"I'm pretty good" he said "I saw you looking at the tack, interested in some of the tack?"
"Oh, just looking at tack for Bear, my horse" I said
"That's cool, why is he called Bear?" He asked
"He was scratched by a Bear and we named him that" I said
"That's still cool" he said
"Hi, welcome to Maggie's, my name is Ashley, what can I get for you?" Ashley Stanton asked
I didn't see Ashley Stanton as the type of person that would want to work at Maggie's but she has to I guess to make some money
"Uh, I'll take a strawberry smoothie" I said and letting Jake order
"And I'll have the same thing as her" Jake said
I didn't expect Jake to get a strawberry smoothie but I guess its whatever. I saw my dad walk in
"Hey Mr. Fleming" Jake said
"Hey Jake" Tim said "and Crystal"
"Hi dad" I said
"Aren't you supposed to be with Amy right now Crystal" Tim asked me
"I'm kinda on a date right now dad" I said
"With who?" He asked
"With Jake" I responded
The date got done and I drove back to Heartland and sat in the barn office looking out into the barn area once again. I was so embarrassed that I saw my dad there when I didn't expect it, he's overprotective of me
"Hey, your back" Jack said
"Yup but dad had to come" I said
"What do you mean" he asked
"Dad walked in when I was having a date with Jake" I said
"Well, he shouldn't interrupt that date of yours" Jack said
"I know Grandpa" I replied
"Go on and go riding" Jack said
"Really?" I asked
"Yeah, go on" he said
"Okay, thanks Grandpa" I said
I got Bear out of his stall and tacked him up and went to the arena to ride him. I went on a trail ride after riding in the arena. I went to go see my mom again because I like to see her at her grave everyday so I rode over there and tied Bears rein to the fence and go inside to her grave.
