I've tried flirting with the new girl all day, but she's still being cold. At first, she would snap back at me with some smart-aleck remark, but the last few classes with her, she would just turn away. Some rumor spread throughout the school that this girl and I had a past. That we fell in love, then she broke my heart. I'm known for being a tease at my school. I have this reputation because I'll flirt with a girl but never take it past that. Everyone has heard this rumor and has steered clear of her. The guys are scared that I'll beat them senseless. The girls, however, are filled with jealousy over her being the one to get with me.
I could see her sitting there with her friends before the rumor. Seemingly guarded to everyone else, but she appeared free with Alice and Liz. As the day stretched on I became more intrigued by her. No girl had every ignored me before like her before. She had an air of mystery surrounding her, and I was going to find out what she was hiding.
"Hey Lilly," I tried to speak to her, but she never responded as I walked into the cafeteria. The first thing I did was scan for Oli and North. At the front of the line I see Oli with that girl, Day. He looked up and made eye contact with me. He shot me a look before glancing at her before back at me. It was his look that called dibs. I must have given him a hard scowl because he said something to her before heading towards me.
"What's up?" Oli asked as he made his way to me.
"Nothing, why does anything have to be up?" I asked him.
"Maybe, because that was your signature "go to hell" look you gave me? Is it about your family?" he asked.
"No, man."
"Then what is it? It's not the girl is it? Because L-"
"No, of course not. If you like her go for it dude. She's a little frigid though, so watch out," I said as I lightly punched him.
"Yeah, sure man, I gotta go, catch up with you later," Oli said as he headed out of the cafeteria.
I make a beeline towards the new girl. Her head was tilted down, covering her face with her hair. She was making her way towards an empty table as I neared her. I stopped a few feet in front of her and waited for her to notice me. She didn't.
She ran right into me before slipping. I caught her while her food went all over us. Spaghetti noodles slid down my face while pieces of lettuce stuck to her shirt and skinny jeans, I couldn't help but laugh. Her face scrunched up in a cute scowl before laying into me.
"What the heck is wrong with you? Watch where you're going," Day yelled at me. Her face was still scrunched up, kind of like a chipmunk. I chuckled softly at that thought which didn't help me much.
I smirked, "You didn't need to dump your food on me as an excuse to talk to me."
"You're the one that ran into me not the other way around. Stop following me."
"I can't help but follow you around gorgeous. You must be tired, sit down," I said starting to pull out a chair for her. Her face turned to confusion.
"Why would I need to sit down?"
"Because you've been running through my mind all day," I said throwing in a wink. I could feel the anger rolling off of her in waves.
"How can so much ego be packed into one small package like you?" Now that one hurt a little. I was left speechless and with that statement, she turned on her heel and stormed out of the room. I just stood there stunned. No one had ever spoken to me like that before, especially not a member from the opposite sex. This girl might be the one I thought.

I could sense that Lilly was annoyed but I couldn't get through to her. She put up her walls between us and regardless of what I tried to get through. I sighed and headed to the locker room to change into my workout clothes. All I could feel was her anger and it worried me. The only other time I could think of her being this anger was when I told her about my family or at least what I could tell her.
My father is one of the thirteen paranormal council leaders also known as the The Council of the Enchanted. He is the head of the witches/wizards of our world. He is in charge of ever one of us. He's never home anymore because he's traveling the world visiting the Sanctuaries stationed in each major city. I don't really remember my father besides the pain he caused my mom. Before my dad got his position, my parents fought constantly. My mother would beg him to stay and he would just walk out of the door. I remember one time when I was six...
I was awoken with the sound of screaming downstairs. The hair on the back of my neck stood up as I heard something breaking. I crept downstairs to investigate what was happening. I made it halfway down the stairs and stared in between the banisters. My father was bringing his suitcases towards the door with my mother behind him, begging for him to stay. My father turned and slapped her across the face, knocking her to the ground. My mother held her cheek, staring up at him with tears running down her face. With a look of disgust, my father walked out of the door for the last time.

Coach Convel pulled me out of the hallway before I could make my way to my class after lunch. Coach taught gym and is the head coach for baseball. He was also part of the chain of command for the werewolf community. My parents and him go way back to high school. He was more of a dad to me than my dad ever was.
"Cole, I need you to check the baseball shed. A janitor told me that he found some kids messing around there. I want you to check it out and make sure nothing is missing, I already have you excused from your classes in case," Coach said as he pat me on the shoulder before walking down the hall.
Just great, now I probably won't see the guys until tonight. I headed down towards the baseball field. It was windier than it was this morning, I zipped up my jacket more and unlocked the gate that led to the field. The shed was on the top of a small hill, and as I made my way up, I could see the mess those kids made. This was going to take a while...
