Layla paused, her hand on the door handle and turned. She didn't miss the interested look in Canon's eyes as he said, "I believe I was supposed to conduct an interview, Miss Kelly."
Layla's eyes widened as he said, "Please sit down."
Canon glanced down at his desk as she took a seat, noticing the glass shards still there and on the floor. The janitor still hadn't shown up. He frowned and then proceeded with the interview, beginning to fire questions at her rapidly. Layla barely had a chance to answer before he asked the next one. Canon's mind was going a mile a minute. This girl was different from any other one he'd met. The way she looked at him was not with lust or even interest. It was incredibly refreshing and unfortunately sparked his curiosity and interest. He knew he'd hire her at this point even if she said the car engine he created was stupid. Heck, he'd probably agree with her.
It helped that she was very pretty in a natural outdoorsy type of way. Her long brown hair was clipped back from her face and cascaded down her back in natural curls. Honest hazel eyes looked into his as she answered his questions. He mentally congratulated her there. Not many people could hold eye contact with him. Her lips were full and pink and she had a small pert nose with a dash of freckles across it. He could tell she didn't wear much makeup, yet she was beautiful without it. Her small body was slim, yet curvy in all the right places with wide hips tapering down to slim toned legs. After about twenty minutes, he stood to his feet and said, "Great. My receptionist will call you if you got the job." His voice was curt.
Layla nodded, standing from her seat of his desk as he said, "You will also need to sign a contract that I will have drawn up. If you get the job, we will discuss that later."
Layla nodded wondering what was in that contract. She looked up as Mr. Wilde cleared his throat and she realized he was looking at her in annoyance. Layla blushed as she realized she'd spaced out a moment. She needed to get herself together. The door slammed behind her as she walked out and Layla went to sit down for a second on the couch against the wall. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes.
"Are you alright, ma'am?" asked Rose.
Layla opened her eyes to see the willowy blond headed her direction. "I'm fine," she answered, "Just had a little overwhelmed."
"I'm terribly sorry for the inconvenience," apologized Rose, "Today has not been a good day so far. Mr. Wilde is even more of a bear than normal."
Layla chuckled as she said, "I see. Well, he said you would contact me if I got the job so I better run. Mr. Wilde is probably expecting the janitor right about now."
Rose smiled and reached out her hand as she said, "Duly noted. My name's Rose Sutton by the way."
Layla shook her hand and said warmly, "Nice to meet you. Layla Kelly."
Rose grinned and said, "I hope you get the job. We are going to be good friends."
Layla laughed and said, "Okay. I'll see you around."
She walked into the elevator and hurried out of the building. She had to get to her other job at the bakery down the street. She had fifteen minutes before her shift started.
Meanwhile, Canon called Rose. She showed up with the janitor in tow.
"Call Miss Kelly and tell her she got the job." His voice was brusque.
Rose's eyes widened and she smiled before nodding and leaving the room.
