Layla came out of her daze and realized Canon was busy killing Tony. Yanking the gag out of her mouth, she yelled at him but he either didn't hear her or ignored it. As much as she liked seeing Tony get his rear end delivered to him on a silver platter, she knew if Canon didn't stop, he was going to kill him.

"Canon," she yelled, grabbing his arm.

It was drawn back ready to hit Tony again, but he froze and looked at her, the anger fading from his eyes, his breathing ragged. Layla didn't even realize she called him by his first name.

"Layla," he said worriedly, dropping Tony to the ground, "Are you okay?"

He tensed as another wave of anger washed over him and he said, "I swear if that idiot hurt you, I'll kill him."

"I'm fine," said Layla softly, her hands going to his and holding them up so she could see the damage.

Canon watched her as she worried about him and murmured, "I'm sorry."

"It's okay," said Layla, her voice trembling as she thought about what would have happened if Canon hadn't shown up.

"No it's not," growled Canon pulling her into his arms. Layla rested her head on his chest listening to the rapid beat of his heart as she started crying. Anger, relief, hurt; every emotion seemed to rebel all at the same time and demand expression. And given the harrowing circumstance she'd just passed through, tears fell.

"Shh," comforted Canon, "I've got you; it's okay."

He breathed in her familiar smell and drowned in it. Her scent was intoxicating and calmed him down. Finally, Layla got her tears under control and wiped her eyes, embarrassed when she realized she probably looked awful considering her makeup was now running down her cheeks.

"Are you sure you're okay?" asked Canon, wiping at the remainder of the tears on her cheeks.

Layla nodded blown away by the concern in his eyes and Canon said, "Let's get out of here."

"What about him?" asked Layla, pointing to where Tony was still unconscious.

Canon's face hardened as he said, "We could just leave him here."

"NO," said Layla firmly, her fingers clutching at his coat.

"Why not?" asked Canon, still angry, "He deserves it."

Layla nodded but said, "We can't let him die. You'd go to prison for murder, you idiot."

Canon crushed her to him in another hug and said, "Fine. I'll tell Carter to deal with it."

Immediately, Niko stepped out of the shadows and said, "On it, boss."

Layla looked wide-eyed at Canon and asked, "Who is he?"

"My bodyguard, Niko," answered Canon, "Or at least, one of them. He's one of Carter's most trusted men."

"Wh-where did you come from?" stuttered Layla, looking at the man who was younger and looked to be ex-military. He was the same one she'd seen in the mall the other day with Carter.

Niko hoisted Tony up easily and started to leave with him over his shoulders as he said, "I'm never far away."

"Well, where were you when I needed help?" muttered Layla sarcastically.

"I was about to step in," he explained, "But Mr. Wilde was there and he looked like he had it pretty well covered."

Layla smiled weakly as she said, "Yes he did."

The man disappeared in the shadows just like he'd appeared and Layla shivered suddenly.

"Come on," said Canon, wrapping his arm around her, "I'm taking you home with me."

Layla let him lead her toward the car and she climbed in the passenger seat shooting Jester and Rose a text to let them know she was going home with Canon.

They rode in silence. Once they arrived at the Estate, Layla got out of the car and waited for Canon to open the front door. She walked inside and looked around in awe.  She would have liked to explore but she was dead on her feet.
Canon took her hand and led her upstairs to his room. Layla walked inside and glanced around. His bed was huge and covered in black sheets and a black comforter. The floor was black wood and the walls were creamy white. Layla loved the room already. It looked exactly like Canon.

Going over to his dresser, Canon found her a shirt of his to sleep in and tossed it to her saying, "The bathroom's right in there. Go get changed."

Layla walked in the bathroom and washed her face in the sink getting rid of all the makeup down the drain. Shucking off her clothes and kicking her heels off, she pulled Canon's grey shirt on over her black lacy underwear, feeling self-conscious. The shirt was long on her almost coming to her knees and she loved the way it smelled of him, but it felt kind of intimate wearing his clothes.

Walking out of the bathroom, she saw that the lights were off and Canon lay on his bed in his boxers and a t-shirt, his long legs stretched out on the bed.
"Mr. Wilde," she squeaked, hiding her eyes.

He looked up at her and chuckled. "I'm not naked," he assured.

"But you almost are," she insisted, "You don't have any pants on."

He looked at her weird before getting up to put a pair of sweatpants on, bumping his toe on the end of the dresser. He let out a small string of curses until he heard Layla giggle at him and then he decided maybe it was worth a broken toe, just to hear her laugh.

Layla hesitated as she thought about staying the night in the same bed as Canon. "Um, where do I sleep?" she asked.

Canon pulled on a pair of sweats as he said, "Here."

He waited nervously for her to reject him, but to his surprise, she agreed. "Okay," said Layla choking down her nervousness.

With a jump, Layla ran and landed on the bed on her back, closing her eyes and reveling in the softness coming up to meet her body. She felt the bed dip as Canon lay down next to her and he said his voice husky, "You look even better in that shirt than I do."

"Glad you approve," yawned Layla, snuggling down under the covers and feeling his arms wrap around her and his hot breath against her neck, "Because you're not getting it back."

Then they were asleep.
