Before Celestia and Luna's time the leaders of the 3 pony tribes, Earth ponies, Pegasi and Unicorns created what is know as the Elements of Harmony. Clover the Clever took six gems and asked one of the leaders to step up to one of them and state a key to good friendships. Commander Hurricane came to the ruby and said loyalty. Then Clover the Clever used her magic to put that into the ruby.
