My first story on here, I hope you guys enjoy it! This first section will be a little reference guide, just explaining the characters and the setting to make it easier to understand the story.
Hanna- Narrator and main character. 16 years old. Talented runner, future surgeon. Has a big heart, and an unbelievable sense of humor.
Brendan- Hanna's twin brother, also 16 and a talented runner. Very artistic, has a similar sense of humor as Hanna. Best friends with his sister.
Brooke- Hanna's best friend (other than her brother). 16 years old. Has been running races with the twins since childhood, is much more refined than Hanna and Brendan.
Nathan- Brendan's best friend (other than his sister). 16 years old. Talented basketball player, but struggles with schoolwork.
Jackson- Brendan and Hanna's younger brother. 11 years old. He is an annoying little pig, but he's a pretty entertaining little pig.
Victoria and John- Brendan, Hanna, and Jackson's parents. Very successful business owners, with hefty trust funds for each of their children.
Christina- The annoying 10-year old next door neighbor, who always seems to be looking into Hanna's bedroom with a set of binoculars. Has a not-so-secret crush on Jackson.
Alex- One of the lifeguards at the beach. 17 years old, and has taken a liking to Hanna, against Brendan's wishes.
Nicole- The female lifeguard at the beach, who Brendan and Nathan have had a crush on since first grade, although she seems to be untouchable.
Peyton- Nathan's 15-Year old sister who loves to follow Hanna and Brooke around. Although annoying, it's kind of interesting to have a fan club.
Setting- York Beach, Maine. Small beach town on the Southern coast of Maine. The group attend the public high school in town. For the summer months, the town is alive, but as soon as Columbus day has come and gone, the town shuts down again. The group live 2 streets away from the beach, in big houses that belong to small families, but could fit an entire army.
Now for the first chapter!
37-11-1. This is the last time I'll ever dial this locker combination. Once I start junior year next year, I'll have a new locker and a new combination. And hopefully next year my locker will be on top of my brothers, unlike this year.
"Han, come on. We're all going to the beach. We have to go back to the houses to get the chairs and stuff." My best friend, Brooke, said while she tugged on my arm.
"Ok, just give me a second." I said, as I took in one last look of the sophomore hallway. Sure, I would walk through here plenty of times before graduation, but never in the same way. It would never be "my" hallway again. My locker would belong to someone else. Someone else would be dialing my combination, only it wouldn't be my combination anymore. The broken coat hook would no doubt annoy the freshman that got my locker. Hopefully the beachy scent from my Yankee Candle Air Freshener would linger. So even if a disgusting teenaged boy got my locker, it would still smell sweet.
"We don't have all day. Hurry up!" Brooke yelled, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Ok, Ok. Let's go!" I said, looking over my shoulder one last time.
"Which one should I wear?" Brooke asked, holding up two bikinis.
"The pink one. The black one looks like it'll fall off as soon as you get in the water." I replied.
"Han, that water is freezing. I don't know why you would ever want to go in it."
"It's because I like to surf, and the waves are huge. Who cares if it's cold?"
