It was the 4th of July and so far you had no plans to celebrate it whatsoever. Instead, you were just going to chill at home on the couch and eat tons of ice cream.
You were getting ready to go home and fulfill your exciting plans until Rafael stopped you to ask a question.
"Hey (Y/N), are you doing anything fun tonight?" He asked.
"If you consider laying on the couch and binge watching (Fave show), then yes I do. Why do you wanna know?"
"Well, I was wondering if you wanted to come see some fireworks with me tonight? I mean you clearly have nothing better to do anyways." He said playfully.
You laughed and blushed a little while thinking of whether to accept his offer or not.
"C'mon (Y/N), I know you wanna go." He said teasingly again.
"Yeah sure. Why not." You said before smiling.
"Great! We can head there now if you'd like?"
You nodded your head and proceeded to follow Rafael out to his car.
During the ride, all you could think about was why he asked you to come with him.
You two had stopped talking months ago for no reason. You assumed it was because you both got super busy with work but it was odd for him to ask you to something like this out of the blue.
"So, why'd you originally decide to stay in tonight?" Rafael asked, breaking the silence.
"I just find fireworks boring now." You said back.
You guys continued to have a casual conversation until you arrived at the park where the fireworks were being held.
The park was pretty crowded so there was no where to sit on the grass. Surprisingly though, there was no one on the playground. You two decided to over and sit on the platform next to the slide to watch the fireworks. It actually wasn't even that bad of a view either.
You couldn't help but notice Rafael's face as he watched the fireworks. At this point you didn't even care about the them anymore. You were too entranced by Rafael and how free he looked. He didn't look the same. Suddenly you could read him like a book. It took you back to a time when Rafael never put up walls/facades to make others happy or make them think he was someone else. He put so much into keeping up this big ego but you knew deep down he was insecure. Scared to let someone in.
'Was that why we stopped talking? Was he scared to let me in?' You thought to yourself.
You were afraid that after this you would never see the real Rafael again. The Rafael you fell in love with and would still love even with his personality quirks and flaws.
Rafael began to notice you staring at him. He blushed a little and turned away.
"Rafael" You said before he turned to face you again.
"Let your walls down. Let me in." You said softly while looking into his eyes.
He stayed silent.
"The Rafael I see now, is the one I fell in love with months ago before you stopped talking to me. I know there's a reason why you asked me to come here."
"You're right there is and you've already figured it out." He said back.
"I trust you (Y/N) but-" Rafael said again before you cut him off.
"You're too afraid to let me in."
There was a brief silence before he decided to speak again.
"I realize now that you were the only one I've ever trusted and loved. We always got along so well but I had to go screw it up by cutting you off and I'm sorry."
You leaned in and planted a kiss on Rafael's lips as more and more fireworks went off in the sky.
"You know I'll never hurt or judge you. Just let the real Rafael Barba out."
