The fluorescent lights above me illuminated the familiar hallway, casting a calming glow over the corpses of my fallen colleagues. I stepped over them as quietly as possible while praying that my former friends and acquaintances were fully dead. This corridor leads to the HR department, the resident Starbucks and the accounting offices.
Exiting the hallway into the building's atrium I see that in larger spaces it seems like less destruction took place. Scanning the area around me I noticed the HR department and the accounting offices usually pristine glass walls were mostly shattered and bloodstained with a few still standing strong. Finally, my gaze landed on the Starbucks. Completely devoid of average whites girls sipping their pumpkin spice lattes, the inside was unimaginable. Mostly because it was barricaded shut with tables, counters, chairs and the occasional coffee machine. A small group of around 6 or 7 zombies were battering the doors either hungry for those trapped inside or I'm mistaking the coffee deprived accountants for flesh-eating monsters, either way, I am petrified. I look at my "weapons" and my heroic, ninja-like attitude dissipates leaving behind a terrified girl brandishing her coffee stained Gucci heels meekly.
The zombies/accountants haven't noticed me yet. I have to decide what I want to do. I began to weigh up my options.
"If I save them it could potentially save me in the future, be it from them killing a zombie or me using them as... human bait. But on the other hand, if I don't save them I can just walk out of here without confronting the zombies... I like the sound of human bait better
Turning back to the group I realised they noticed my incoherent ramblings and began stalking towards me.Through severe panic I threw my heels at the group in hopes of impaling one's head, my efforts were in vain though as the heels bounced off their heads and crashed to the ground which only aggravated them more. Through sheer terror, I began sprinting into the HR offices and hurdling over the broken glass and upturned desks in hopes of finding some salvation in the maze of broken glass.
Through the deadly shards, I saw a wooden door leading outside of the offices. Rushing towards it without hesitation I leapt at the door. My body slammed against the door, I collapsed to the floor completely winded as someone on the other side of the door unlocked the door and pulled it open, I began crawling through the door as fast as possible.
Once I was through the door I looked at the stranger who glared at me quizzically.
"What are you running from?"
They proceeded to look outside the door searching for the danger. While they were doing this I was slowly standing up, I glanced through the door searching for the zombies that were chasing me.
The woman who unlocked the door turned back to me and pointed into the distance.
"Is that what you were running from?"
Following her finger with my gaze I saw the zombies at the entrance to the HR offices, they seem to have impaled themselves on the glass and accidentally killed themselves.
I looked back the woman dumbfounded
"Oh"
Now I knew the zombies were never chasing me I examined the woman quickly. Oh damn, she was my boss.
"Oh hello, Jane..."
"Keira... nice to see you again..."
I never had a good relationship with my boss she was always a cough stuck up bitch cough cough. shes staring at me while looking annoyed, Oh no, I said that out loud didn't I?
"You haven't changed at all Keira." She let off a small smile.
