It had been a long day. Jax was sitting on his sofa, eyes closed, and a tumbler of whiskey in his right hand. He felt his wife sitting on his lap and smiled, his eyes still closed. He let her place the whiskey on the coffee table before her arms surrounded him. He kissed her cheek, "Hey Panda Eyes. How are you holding up?"
Dani tried squeezing closer, her body relaxed against the hard muscles of his chest. She inhaled his cologne and a smile spread across her face as his arms wrapped around her.
"Dani?"
"Jax, could you just hold me for a minute?" Dani whispered.
"Just a minute? No, I can't do that. How about a lifetime instead?"
Dani giggled.
"Panda Eyes?" Jax kissed the top of her head which was cradled against his chest. "Dani, I'm really sorry about Oliver. I'm going to find the guy. Trust me."
"Of course I trust you."
"Whoever did this is going to pay."
Dani nodded against his chest, "I know. And if you don't, I'll have to step in."
"What?"
"Did you forget that you didn't marry an ordinary woman? I can see people's nightmares and my brother-"
"Dani, I don't want you to get involved."
"I know. I was just talking. Did you know Calvin took me aside after we left the hospital? He said he had a dream about us."
"Were you pregnant?" Jax grinned.
"No, nothing like that. He said it was a warning."
Jax's body became tense. He cleared his throat before asking, "W-what did he see in his dream?"
"He said we were fighting."
Jax thought of the stranger at the diner and felt his throat go dry. He instinctively held his wife closer to his body, "All couples fight. It's not a big deal."
"He said it was a big fight. That you threatened to leave me."
Jax swallowed hard, trying to rid himself of the fear that was threatening to escape via his words, "No. No, I'd never leave you, Dani. I love you."
Dani pulled herself up and leaned back, narrowing her eyes, "I know you love me, Jax. I love you too but you can't say things like that so easily."
"What do you mean? You're my wife. I know I won't leave you."
"Just like you knew you wouldn't ever break up with me when we were dating? You made that promise before and then you dumped me."
Her words felt like cold water had been thrown on him, "Dani, you know why-"
"The why doesn't matter. It happened. I know you were threatened and you did it for my own good," Dani said. "I know that. But it doesn't change the fact that you did break up with me."
Jax frowned, "Are you bringing all of this up because of Calvin's dream or is there another reason? I know you're upset because Oliver still hasn't woken up. I know how you feel about people leaving you, but-"
"I'm sorry," Dani groaned. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't be doing this. It was just a dream. It's just...I don't know what I'd do. On top of that, I keep thinking maybe I'm some sort of jinx."
"What?"
"Between my nightmares and the fact that almost everyone who's gotten close to me has died..."
Her words trailed off but Jax understood. He pulled Dani back close, "You're not a jinx. If anything you're my good luck charm. Because of you, we were able to stop my brother. We caught the Maestro. We even solved the Majestic Waters case, remember? No, you're not a Jinx."
"Do I sound like a crazy person?" Dani asked. "I mean crazier than normal?"
"Stop putting yourself down. You don't sound crazy. You sound like Dani, my wife, the woman I love."
"Oliver wanted to hold our children," Dani said, her voice cracking with emotion. "My mom said if we get pregnant I'll be in danger."
"I'm sorry, Dani. You know I'll always protect you, right?"
"I'm not perfect. I make mistakes. You have to promise me you'll never leave me, okay?"
Jax shook his head, "I already did when we got married. You just stick with me and we'll be fine. Kick any other men who try hanging around you to the curb. Flash them your wedding ring and remind them you're married to me. I made a mistake in the past. I won't make it again. I'm never leaving you. I'm never going to let you leave me either."
"Even if I'm in danger?" Dani asked.
Jax groaned and looked away, "Even if it means you're in danger. I'll just have to work harder to keep you safe."
Dani played with the buttons on Jax's shirt, "I wouldn't leave you either. I'd follow you to Hell, Jax Michaels."
Jax let her unbutton his shirt, his breath catching in his throat as she kissed his chest. He pulled her face level with his and gently kissed her lips, "What's this about Hell? I could've sworn we're already in Heaven."
"You think we're in Heaven?"
Jax nodded, "This must be Heaven. How else do you explain you and I being married?"
Dani covered her mouth in laughter, "You're so corny sometimes."
Jax stood while lifting his wife in his arms, "But you love corn, don't you? Let's go upstairs and I'll let you have all the corn you can eat."
"What? Jax Michaels, you're-"
He didn't let her finish. He pressed his lips against hers as he carried her upstairs to their bedroom.
