Sybil and I carried Marie inside the house and into one of the bedrooms where two beds stood in the middle of a big white circle.
"What's the circle for?"
"For Marie and I to become untraceable, I just need to get a couple of stuff downstairs for me to draw energy from. Once I'm done with this we can just continue to sleep unharmed and no one will find us."
"Why would you do that? Why can't you just go home?"
"Stella they get in touch with me wherever I go. I tried too long to keep running but I can't outrun them. So I searched and searched for this spell, one that keeps me this age for however long I sleep. And once the people who chase me are dead then I come back but only then because nothing else works."
"So let me sleep with you."
"No that's not what you want. You've always wanted to be normal. You didn't want this life. You didn't ask for this I just wished Ezra was here to live it with you."
"Ezra?"
"Yeah well if he ever comes back don't hesitate in taking him back. But whatever you do don't go looking for him. I have this feeling like he's being kept by someone. Someone who wants to lure you," I followed her downstairs to the kitchen.
"Right but what about the scientist, my job?"
"You need to sell your things and go, if you go west that's where most of the angels are, if you go south mostly witches but a lot of them like me runaways. And if you go Midwest all you'll come across is people who hate you, who chase you and want you dead. The north is too intense, too tricky, you never know who's who. The barriers there are so packed with the supernatural unless you've got a good hiding spot it's probably not too wise to stay there since you can be sensed quicker."
"Sensed?"
"Yes and if you get out of the continent, make sure no one is following you because your allies are forged in the continent of your birth."
"I sure hope I remember this."
"So do I but..." Sybil had finished getting her ingredients and I went upstairs behind her as she began setting up stuff.
"But?"
"But I'm going to have to erase your memory of this location so no one can find us."
"No that's not fair, what if I want to visit you? Make sure you're fine?"
"My point exactly, if you come here someone will eventually follow you and find us, and we can't have that."
"Fine then who was our mother?"
"See your questions never end now give me your hand so you can go back home and forget this ever happened," she grabbed my hand.
"Wait that's it?"
"Yes."
"Okay then um I'll see you later? Or what do we say at times like this?"
"See you later is good," Sybil hugged me.
"So you say a couple of words and everything goes back to normal?"
"Yes and you get out of town, don't stay there, you have no reason for staying," Sybil said looking into my eyes and holding me by the hands.
"Okay."
"Good, I'll start then, ready?"
"Sure."
"Terra sub pedibus eius. Tolle eam. Ad quo illa dormit. Domum. Dulce domum. Et nunquam meminisse hoc somnium..."
Sybil chanted and soon I was back in bed waking up back in Syracuse like nothing had happened. Just then in those first few minutes thoughts of never going back to work entered like a strong subliminal message in my mind but I chose to ignore them.
Back to the White Mountains 3.19.15
"Stella?" I heard Ezra's voice asking sweetly, "are you alright?"
"Oh hey, I'm fine."
"So how was it?" Ezra asked while Hugh turned to get water, he didn't look too good.
"Hugh are you okay?"
"Fine," he said with his back turned to us.
"Sorry it's just that Hugh stays with you while you revisit the memory, he watches it like a movie and he can't go until you're done."
"Oh sorry if I took too long," I said to Hugh.
"Like I said it's fine," he said but something was off.
"Okay then what am I missing here?" I asked wanting to know the look Ezra was giving Hugh.
"I shouldn't have let you two in here," Hugh paced around.
"I'm sorry Hugh."
"Hugh just tell her," Ezra asked him.
"It's in the past!" Hugh shouted back at us.
"Fine then I'll tell her. It's Sybil. It's been a while since they've seen each other and well this is probably not how he wanted it to happen," Ezra explained.
"Oh sorry. I had no idea."
"Yes well, who cares? It's not like I'm ever going to see her again," he sighed.
"Why not?"
"Did you find where she is?" Ezra asked me.
"Yes, I can take us there."
"Great then you two should go," Hugh said.
"Yes thanks Hugh, we appreciate it," Ezra shook his hand.
"Wait don't you wanna come with us?" I asked Hugh, maybe this was his chance to see her.
"No, I don't go anywhere outside of this mountain."
"But..."
"It's useless Stella he won't go." Ezra warned me.
"Are you very sure Hugh?"
"Bye Stella," he gave me his hand to shake.
"Take care Hugh." I said disappointed he wouldn't budge.
Ezra opened the door for us to leave and an arrow shot in and Hugh shut the door immediately.
"Ezra I thought you said no one followed you!"
Hugh shouted at him and I got down immediately and then Hugh took a couple of steel axes from under his coffee table.
"No one did, I'm sure of it!" Ezra yelled back and Hugh was even more spooked.
"So they're really going after us one by one?"
"I guess this is about the time you count your blessings huh?"
"Shut up Ezra and let's go deal with these bastards."
"Just like old times," Ezra and Hugh got up and the door was opened when Hugh's axe flew out and I went to the window to watch how many there were and how this fight was going to go down...
